I think Ramos will play near enough the full strength line up and take them off at 4-0 like he did against Arsenal after 50-60 minutes.
Couple up at half time and we are home and hosed.

I agree, although I'd rather see them rested from with start with the option of giving them a 20 minute 'warm up' at the end.

I really disagree with this 'we messed it up in Prague' line - yes we could have won by more - we also could have drawn or lost -

we won away from home against a 'CL side' (remember how mighty they are compared to us UEFA Cup little uns) who are lge leaders and I believe have beaten Ajax home and awy (may be wrong about that) - they certainly drew at home to Arsenal

how is that messing it up - it was a tremendous result and good/very good performance

I hope We start with Keane & Bent - also give JJ and a few others a rest - but in Ramos I trust :)

I think it was a result we'd all have taken before the game but I think we did mess up an opportunity to kill the tie after the first half.

As to the team. I'd be:

Cerny
Chimbo Hudd Kaboul Lee
Taarabt Tainio Zoko O'Hara
Bent Keane

Keano off at HT if we're 1-0 or better.

(Yes, I did start a thread saying we'd have to play a full strength team but I was being controversial :))

I got a feeling it will be full strength for the first half probably with the exception of berba and king. So expect....

Cerny

Chimbo
Kaboul
Woody
Lee

Steeeeeeeed
JJ
Tainio
Lenny

Bent
Keane

With JJ and Keane to be withdrawn as soon as the scoreline allows us to.....

I always respect everyone's opinions on team selection but I do think playing King at all on Thursday would be utter madness.

From what I've read any matchplay leads to massive knee swelling that takes a long time to go down so we'd effectively be writing him off for the final. For me, King has to be saved for the final so that we are ultra-full strength.

It all depends on what people mean by 'messed up' - if they mean we were comfortable at 2-0 and then Cerny made the kind of howler you can't legislate against - fair enough -

if some people mean as they as they clearly do (as I've seen it written on various sites) that we messed up cos we didn't try/didn't seeem to be aware of the benefits of a bigger lead/were too casual then I repeat I disagree - we got a tremendous result - put in a good/very good performance - Cerny made an individual error (it happens) and we won 2-1 away -

it wasn't like we were deliberately missing chances in the second half - also JR took the chance to rest some players over there -

we ended up with a win and no injuries away to a CL side, lge leaders, who rarely lose at home

the way some people are talking it was if we were away to Brann or an even lower ranked team than them

Slavia are ranked 74 in Europe (from memory) there are many many teams ranked way lower than them

I can't think of a better result in the first legs of this round than our one - admittedly it's only the second legs that decide how good the first legs were - but so far so good

i have a feeling robbo will be in goal for some reason

was going to say the same thing. I think he may have been given the nod for the cup final depending on what happens in this game.

I agree with most, Berbs JJ and Lennon, perhaps Steed who is the onli attacking regular who rarely gets a rest,on tkeep them all on the though used only if needed.

In terms of the keeper situation i think after cernys gaffe JR should select to play on thursday whoever ihe has in mind to play in the final.

Also like to see Chimbonda at left back if JR is gonna play him there in the final

Wouldnt mind seeing King do 50/60 minutes too.

I'm a bit torn on the GK decision. I think it would be unbelievably harsh to drop Cerny on the basis of the Prague error (I don't include the deflected Ronaldo shot as a howler). How many was Robbo allowed to make before being axed? I think JR has to stick with Cerny. Maybe if Robbo demostrates the right attitude to JR and Cerny makes a few more errors he might be in with a shout at a later stage.

I don't think you need to rest a GK like you do outfield players so don't think that's a reason to bring Robbo back either.

But with all the above said, if Robbo doesn't get a game it's looking increasingly like we'll be in the market for a first choice GK in the summer as has been speculated.

v Slavia
----------Robbo
Chimbonda Kaboul Zokora Lee
Lennon Jenas Tainio Taraabt
-------Berbatov Bent

In this side I would bring Berbatov and Lennon off at half time.
They have both had a week off already so a half game loosener will set them up nicely for Sunday.
Second half I'd switch Taraabt to the right and give O'Hara half a game bringing on Pekaart for Berbatov. Huddlestone in the last half an hour for Jenas and maybe give Gilberto half a game for Lee

My Side for Sunday would be
-------------Cerny
Hutton Woody King(Zokora) Chimbonda
Lennon Jenas Huddlestone Malbranque
----------Keane Berbatov
The most contenious choice here is Huddlestone. We need a passer and he excelled against United. Tainio's workrate is fine but in truth we need to unlock Chelsea and we only have one key.

yep for me Cerny is a keeper (pun intended :)

play him thurs & sun

the reserve squad indicates Pekhart not likely to start (IMO)

I would start Bent & Keane anyway

Hi SQ - wouldn't it be high risk to play zoko CB against Anelka & Drogba?

If what your saying is true then I would be seriously worried about King's future playing career. If this has already been discussed previously, I appologise but I am seriously concerned about King if he can only manage 1 match before needing serious amounts of time off to heal between each game.

Anyone have a clearer understanding of his injury and whether this is a career killing injury as it makes perfect sense to me to give him 45 mins against Slavia to get him match sharp

Can Gilberto play on Thursday? If he can I reckon we may well see him starting.

He was not bought as back-up to Lee, he would not have come as back-up to Lee. He is better at lb than Chimbo and Chimbo will then play at rb in the absence of Hutton.

Robbo

Chimbo Woody Kaboul Gilberto

Lennon TT JJ Steed

Bent Keano

Hi DC, my 1st choice would be to play King but his absence sure gives us a problem. I have ruled Dawson for Sunday(perhaps prematurely) and see it as a straight choice between Kaboul and Zokora to play alongside Woody. I have not considered Chimbonda in the centre because he will play LB, and Huddlestone I feel, will start CM.
I feel Zokoras experience from the ANC will give him the edge over a strong but immature Kaboul. When it comes down to it I see Zokora as being more able to recover from slips and pushes from the Chelsea big two. Once he was turned it would be goodnight for Kaboul.
Have a great weekend BTW:)
