He's scored 2 goals this season. One a wondergoal vs Man City. The other in the first round of the EFL cup in August vs Newport county in which Southampton scored 8 goals.

I personally don't understand all the love for KWP. For me he's another academy product that's been overrated. Did Poch not utilize him, sure but I don't think he's a starting player at a top 4 club.
hmmm is he a striker? how many assists does he have? He got three in one game for spurs before he left and got more regular football im pretty sure thats more than emerson and doherty combined in an entire season so far?

Someone directly asked "hasn't he been scoring a lot of goals recently".

Doherty has 4 assists in the prem this season. Which is twice as many as KWP has this season.

Absolutely. Our error was in letting KWP go when he was ours. We barely used him for no good reason, despite the fact that he looked quite useful in his rare outings, and our starting full backs weren't good. He'd have been great cover for both sides. But to sign him back as a starter for big money would be another big error. He's quite good, but no more.
Not really because it got us Hojbjerg who is a much better player.

Yep. We'll never know what KWP could have achieved at Spurs if Poch had either played him or given him loan speels to give him experience and a chance to prove himself. But by the time he left, it was time for him to leave.

But this is the Lamptey thread so probably not particularly relevant.

This hasn’t been the Lamptey thread for a while ? Anyone got anything insightful to say about him? I’ll have a go. I’ve not seen a huge amount of him, probably only 5-6 games in the last couple seasons. I think how good a player he becomes is down to consistency and staying injury free. I’ve seen games where he is literally the standout player on the pitch, breezing past players, making interceptions, blitzing attackers for pace to win the ball back. His talent is huge, however it’s a worry he gets targeted for being so small. That’s really the only drawback. If he was 6’0” it would be an absolute no brainer. You’d think in the 3 at the back system that would be a more limited issue though as our wingbacks don’t often have to defend the back post

The issue with Lamptey is his fitness. We can’t afford to risk a huge transfer fee on someone with his injury record.

He has bags of potential especially in our system. But I just think it’s too big a risk at how much they’d want.

The more I've seen of Lamptey the less convinced I am. He was electric for a spell last season prior to his injury, but he's not been brilliant when I've watched him this season.

He's obviously very quick and a has good technique, but he's absolutely miniature and very lightweight. For the kind of fee Brighton would want I don't think he'd be worth the risk: if Conte left and we changed systems he'd be too small to play in a back 4 and he still has the injury question mark hanging over him. He's also not Conte's profile at all: he'll accept us signing younger players if they're experienced and durable like Kulusevski, but no chance is he pushing for an overpriced 21 year old 5'5" injury prone wing back with barely 40 senior appearances under his belt.

I'd much prefer us to go back for KWP tbh. Real shame that we didn't keep him for 1 more season as I think he would've finally forced his way into the team under Nuno/Conte but the deal to Saints made sense at the time.
I saw a bit of kwp in the youth team and he was class, probably for me one of the best footballers to come out of the youth team, technically he is excellent.

Saying that, he needed game time and it's been a great move for the lad. He wouldn't have been given the time and patience he needed at spurs.

Now he has the experience I can't understand why we wouldn't go for him. Was there some sort of sell on/buy back option when we sold him? Got to be up there as an option.

We really need to drop this one. He’s too injury prone and we seriously don’t need another sessegnon type injured player joining the ranks.

The lad was club trained for 7 years & reckoned he'd still be here if Mourinho wasn't brought in.

Mourinho? Mourinho joined at the end of november 2019, and KWP left at the end of January 2020. They were at the club together for 2 months,

KWP didn't want to leave because of those two months, and I recall Mourinho didn't want him to leave either (and otherwise use an academy rookie, japh, as a WB)

Yes.

Speaking to Southampton's official website, he said: “I think had he [Pochettino] stayed, I’d still be at Tottenham.

“Mourinho comes in and I get to play one game, but I don’t really get an opportunity like I thought I would, in terms of two or three games rotating with Serge Aurier, but the manager has to make decisions. That was his decision, so that’s fine.

That's an old article, so he probably wouldn't still be there now.
