I agree that our first priorety should be a backup keeper to Gomes as like mentioned, if he hadn't have been fit to play last night we could have been down to Alnwick and Button.

I think we need someone of Carlo's ability if not a little more but we need to avoid bad morale which could arise from a keeper of too good ability not playing enough.
Personally Ben Foster would be superb backup and also a real good rival to Gomes. He has said recently he want's out and needs first team football, fair enough we won't guarentee that again but we do offer a better role for him.

Secondly I feel the big money should be spent on a top striker, a real goalscorer with experiance, either from International football or European football. Names we have been linked and mentioned around the forums being: Dzeko, Torres, Suarez, Huntelaar plus alot more. From those I feel Dzeko and Torres would be best but are the most unlikely.

I also feel we need a LB, whether or not they replace Benny A&E or challenge his position. Someone like Figueroa would be good to challenge but personally I feel we need someone to replace rather then challenge. I like Benny but feel he is a bit too sketchy and after reading his recent article which was real honest, which I respect, I feel we need someone new.

Players likely on the out: Jenas, Hutton, Keane and a few other's could be sold.

Kaboul has been doing a good job and could rotate around the back 4 but maybe we could use another RB, we have Walker and Naughton but are they ready for first team premiership and CL football?

For me, backup GK, new LB and a top striker.

Gomes, Foster or (GK) , Cudicini (If he can play again) Walker and Alnwick sent on loans.

Corluka, (RB)

Benny A&E, (LB)

Walker, Naughton (RB+LB) Bassong can fill in LB, Kaboul can fill in RB.

King, Dawson, Woodgate, Bassong, Kaboul, Dervite sent on loan or sold.

Lennon, Bentley if he stays,

Bale, Rose, Kranjcar

Modric, Sandro, Thud, Palacios, O'Hara + Livermore + Parrett + Bostock loaned out

Defoe, Crouch, Pavy + Keane + Gudjohnson + Dos Santos could be sold, loaned or whatever. (ST)

We have room for the likes of Joe Cole or Ashley Young but they are not essentially needed unless we loaned out Rose, O'Hara and the other youth midfielders.

Yeah I wouldn't say no to that haha although we would also need a LB, maybe pass up on Kjaer and bring in a LB.

My plan for next season would:

GK: Let Cudicini go, I am sorry but anyone who jeopordises our season by riding a motorbike has no place here. Get in a young talented back up. Kasper Schmeichel, Joe Lewis, someone like that.

Defense: Not much needs doing here. Fingers crossed we get Woodgate back next year, would be almost like a new signing, and we would be spoiled for choice at CB. Would like to see Walker or Naughton developed at RB, BAE or Bale continue to improve at LB. Hutton to be sold to Sunderland.

Midfield. Almost taken for granted that we will be selling Jenas, would probably let O'Hara go now his price is high too. Will be interesting to see what happens with Bentley. I have a feeling that Harry will keep him for another year, what with the potential raft of games coming up. The addition of Sandro should see us have increased muscle and defensive solidity, but I feel that we could still do with someone who provides dynamism from the middle. Ramires of Benfica is a powerful runner, who chips in with goals, I would also be tempted by Stephen Ireland if Citeh strengthen in that area, or perhps Van Der Vaart if Real do likewise

I think we could do with another creative wide player, Joe Cole on a Bosman has been widely talked about, and that deal has its pros and cons, Arda Turan seems like a tremendous prospect, and Dario Srna's pace could also be a useful addition in the role he plays for Croatia.

Strikers: Crouch and Defoe seem pretty untouchable as Harry's boys, question marks remain elsewhere. Keane doesn't seem to have much of a future, I would like us to sell, and I still get the feeling that Pav will go if we get the right offer. This leaves us with two spots to fill.

Harry has mentioned on quite a few occasions this season the fact that we haven't got the personnel to play with one up, or switch to 433 like many of the other top sides in the league. I think he will remedy this in the summer and look to buy a mobile, strong centre forward who can lead the line, and let us play to a different shape. Potential candidates are well discussed on this board, your Dzekos et al. Hopefully CL will enable us to attract someone who can take us up a level, this is the key position where we really fall behind the big guns.

I would like to see us go for Luis Fabiano. He has been at Sevilla a long time and may feel like a change, and is a very effective modern number 9. Good pace and strength, excellent movement, and a pretty devastating finisher. Of course whether Sevilla would countenance dealing with us is a another matter, but he would take our whole team up a level.

For the other striking position, I would be happy for us to keep Gudjohnsen, and perhaps bring in a younger forward, and groom them for the future.

Bubble, good players, but do you really want 8 players into a side that is the best we've had for 20 years? I dont.

One of the strikers (two if you count Keane) will leave, I personally think (it's not what I want, but what I think Harry wants) it will be Pav, and that a top No 9 will come in. Let's say Dzeko for now, but someone along those lines.

In midfield, we need one more. I think we'll want 5 central midfielders for next season (incl. Modric). With O'Hara and Jenas likely to leave, Diarra would be perfect.

We need back-up for Lennon. Young is not back-up. Modric, Bale and Kranjcar can all do a brilliant job at LM, we do not need Bellamy.

I don't think we should buy another RB either, but I guess I would take Johnson every day of the week, Richards as well (though I think Kaboul is our Richards and almost as good). IF we bring in another CB it should be a young guy behind Bassong in the pecking order.

We need a back-up goalie. I dont care who he is.

I cant believe I'm sceptical to Young and Richards and saying no to two top strikers and Bellamy, but I DONT WANT BIG CHANGES. I want the extra top notch improvement, and that could take us to the next level..

We need a quick attacking right back - GLEN JOHNSON, we need a quick winger who can play on the left and/or cover Lennon - ASHLEY YOUNG, Another quick wide player that can also play uprfront - CRAIG BELLAMY and an additional glamour signing ( an international class centre forward)

This would be sweet:razz:

A world-class striker and a left winger so that we can play Bale at LB and Modric at CM.

I think Dzeko will only go to Chelsea or ManU. He will view us as he views Wolfsburg, as a Club punching above its weight.

Can we just break the bank and go for a World Class Player to play up top, the old Berbatov would be a mouth watering prospect up front with the quality we have in midfield and defence, but I think we need a tall pacy foward so we can switch to 4-5-1 next season when needed.

I think we'd have a good chance of getting Srna. Would give us great pace, commitment and experience down the right hand side, either as a winger or a more attacking alternative at fullback. Like a right sided Bale. I think he'll be one on a long list of players Harry will have in the back of his mind as general top, top, triffic players who could improve the squad. Up to him to narrow down which positions he sees as priorities.

I also wouldn't be surprised to see us go back in for Pletikosa, that is unless we manage to persuade James to chill out on our bench for a decent wage and a chance of a medal or two, which I think is a possibility given his age and relationship with Harry.

I can't believe so many of you have dismissed the job BAE has done this season and are already suggesting we either replace him or stick Bale there.

Beside the fact that I think we all know now that Bale is better for us in LW, Benoit has been one of, if not, THE most consistent performers for us and getting rid/upgrading him would be a grave mistake.

There aren't many LBs better than him in the world, let alone the Prem, especially that we can attract. What more do you want? Some of our best games have been with BAE behind Bale... A little more time to let this side gel and we're gonna be unstoppable.

But for the mean time, stop dismissing BAE. Jokers, he's had an amazing season!

25 mil bid for Gerrard.

He's not getting any younger but we'd attract some serious players purely because of him.

I really don't think we're going to be spending over 100 million this summer and would be massively against adding that many new faces.

If I saw this team start the first home game of next season I would be delighted:

--------------Gomes---------------

Corluka--Dawson--King------BAE

Lennon---Hudd----Modric----Bale

----------Defoe-----Dzeko--------

Dzeko may not be realistic but we don't know if we don't try. He should be first option. Failing that, I wouldn't be against getting Berba in on loan with option to buy. Then we get to see whether he's still got it.

In the first post of this thread I suggested upgrading on BAE, I'm not dismissing him but let me expand a bit on why i suggested it.

BAE has had some very good games for us this season and scored a very good goal. However his crossing and long range passing are inconsistent, he often takes risks in dangerous positions a-la Atouba and he has also been carded several times when he needn't have been for silly, petulant fouls. We've also seen Arry take him off a few times this season for exactly the reasons I've just mentioned.

There's also the matter of him being a self confessed mercenary.

As I've already said, I'm not knocking BAE - if he's still with us next season I'll be totally happy - but considering we'll be in a position to attract a better class of player I feel it might be worth upgrading if possible.

Joe Cole to replace Bentley. Berbatov (don't care if his return upsets people) to replace Pav and a strong fast striker to compete with Defoe. I'd consider Babel, as I can't think of many relaistic options.

Also sell Keane, O'Hara and Hutton.
