That's a 4231

I think they will line up like this, which is effectively a diamond. If Winks was a DCM and protected the back 4 then it would look more like a proper diamond.

Lloris
Aurier Toby Verts Rose
Sissoko Winks Ndombele
Eriksen
Kane Son

The best football of Pochettino's time at Spurs has come with 3 attacking midfielders. The best football this season has come with three attacking midfielders. Coming off a performance where a 3-man midfield with no creativity created nothing of note in a loss to a fourth division side, and facing a team that will sit back entirely (with a center back who's dominant in the air), he again plays with only two attacking players.

We'll likely win anyways today, but over the course of a 38-game season, there is little chance having only two attacking player supporting Kane up top leads to enough goals to finish in the top 4. Our central midfielders simply lack the ability in the final third to chip in 10-15 goals a season like City's do in a 4-3-3. It's also going to lead to discontent when 4 out of the 6 attacking midfielders we have are hardly playing in the league while Sissoko and Winks are automatic starters.

The uncomfortable truth for Poch is that our two in the base of midfield should be Ndombele and Dier. He doesn’t seem to want to accept it.

He seems to shoehorn winks into the side, I know he’s been one of our better players recently but it seems like we build our whole system around him and he doesn’t justify it

It's the only explanation I would accept, and even then I don't like it.
We all know Pochettino manages Lamela’s workload to reduce his injuries. I doubt we’ll see him playing two games in a week unless there’s no alternative.

Think extra CM is to give Ndomble more time on the ball which isnt a bad thing. Would expect him to be furthest forward of the 3 CMs

I’m going to say it will be a very frustrating 1-1 today with us having 65-75% possession, 15-20 shots but only 2-5 on target.

Hope I am wrong though!!

He played a bit further forward against Leicester but I thought he struggled to influence the game. We need him (and Eriksen) to really step up if we want this formation to work.

Said it a few weeks ago, and still think, Dier is needed for this to work.

Right now, given our attacking players, most of our width has to come from our FBs. However, to do this, you HAVE to have a defensive midfielder who'll sit back and create a back three to safeguard against counter attacks. Liverpool have Fabinho, City have Rodri/Fernandinho.

If we want to play Aurier and Rose and bomb them high, then (sadly) Winks isn't the answer in midfield. Dier-Ndombele needed.
