What people make of moura? Saw few people saying they thought he played well but I thought he gave it away a lot. Not having a pop at him or anything I just wanted to see if I'm way off with how I thought he played

He did alright imo. Having Kane out impacts so much re our play all over the pitch, particularly in midfield and obviously upfront. Sonny and Lucas were getting in each other's way and space a few times during the game, especially in central positions. This doesn't happen if Kane plays.

He was poor this evening, no doubt about it.

Saveable height, nowhere near the corner and the keeper went the wrong way as opposed to being sent the wrong way (Son’s approach didn’t suggest he would put it anywhere else). 50% of crap penalties go in, this was one imo
That taught me ?

With all due respect, I disagree. I know how much you didn’t like Jose. That’s been abundantly clear in zillions of your posts. But the inference here is basically just reiterating your point, but dressed up differently.

Dude... he’s gone. The point, either inferred or not, doesnt feel applicable to tonight’s performance.

The players were lazy and inept in the first half. It is a disservice to suggest they were out of sorts due to needing to adapt to a new manager and style of play. It would be, if the players had looked disorganized or confused. They didn’t. They were sleep walking, indifferent, and showed very little determination. That has zero to do with style or adapting to a system. Effort and passion can be applied, regardless of the circumstances.

This point was made clear in their second half performance... as the main difference was their effort and application. And once they actually started to try harder, the system they were using looked coherent and effective. They played well, and in my opinion deserved to win.

But that happened, due to a profound change in attitude. Not because the players finally adapted to a system they were perhaps befuddled and confounded with starting the game. As the truth is, the positional set up was familiar. Their roles were familiar. The tweaks to how they applied that system and style may have been different, but it wasn’t like they were being asked to play a formation and style that was completely alien to them. They just sucked in H1. And tried much harder in H2. Good for them, and well done to Ryan and his staff for getting the players to ratchet up their effort.
Absolute Bollocks. The players were trying and pressing and tackling with full intent and energy from minute one it was just that for the first 20 minutes Southampton played very well and it took us a while to get to grips with that and get hold of the game which is more than understandable given the team have an interim manager in place only 2 days ago who is asking them to play higher up and more positivity so it was always going to take a bit of easing into the game.

Hilarious that you think the players ‘just tried harder in the 2nd half’ ??Bale literally said afterwards at half time they tweaked a few things tactically and were told to relax a bit more on the ball which they did and therefore settled into the game as a result, it was nothing to do with the effort of the players it was just a game of football where as Mason said afterwards saints played well for the first 20 mins Hugo made 2 good saves and then slowly we started to settle Into the game abs the new approach and style and plan of playing.

Fair play for challenging me passionately but you’re wrong ;)

Of course it was stone wall. We were saved by VAR because the ref thought it was outside the box and VAR corrected that.
The phrase ‘saved by VAR’ I read as having negative connotations. If you literally meant that VAR stopped an incorrect decision from costing us then we agree

I thought Winks played well tbf. Much sharper and quicker with his passing. Made a difference.

I’ve been on his case all season, so fair play to him.

I thought he did ok. Yes he gave away a lot, but he’s not a striker, and did alright out of position. Personally I’d have played Son there but considering the circumstances he did ok.

It’s worth pointing out that it’s clear that the focus on the last few days has been to work on positioning and build up. It’s much easier to play quicker and sharper passes when that’s working.

I suppose the answer depends on what anyone was expecting him to do. It seems he started the game as the 9. Fine, but I don't think anyone, including Lucas himself, would say that's his position. The first half was poor all round and he was feeding off balls fired into him at head height against Vestergaard and Bednarek. If we are expecting him to kill it like Kane against those two then we might have been asking a bit much.

Second half he dropped deeper and swapped around a lot with GLC and did a bit more of what he's best at, nicking the ball of dozy CMs and turning. So yes and no. It's hard to say, mainly because it's so difficult to actually pin down what it is he's in the team to do in the first place. Personally I think he's best playing just behind Kane. So for effort, B+. Achievement, C-.

It depends whether Leicester completely run out of steam as they did late last season. Their lack of squad depth was exposed and I don't think that's changed much. If they maintain some form, you're right, but they just collapsed last season and missed out on a CL qualification that had looked nailed-on.
And in the FACup final which may make the lose thier momentum.

Shows how little Ndombele contributes that Winks out did him.in his time on the pitch.
I've been watching him closely last few weeks and honestly his attitude and body langiage is so bad.
I watched Motd few days ago to look at Newcastle game again. Was about 10min in we were around Newcastles box, lost possesion and they surged forward. Ndomblel looked to the floor, shoulders slumped forward took a few sluggish steps forward and thwn began his light jog back.
If you can watch it backbtake a look. Its fkin shocking. He need to go now. He's just not up to pace of PL and never will be.
If Winks plays as an attacking midfielder I havent got an issue with him. Him and Sissoko together? Fk no.
Wait you actually think winks out did him? Oh my. I think it’s a case of because Ndombele has set the bar high. Whilst winks bar is low, so even an average performance from him looks good. He didn’t do too much of note.

I agree, and it's frustrating. But Southampton pressed like mad first half. They know our weaknesses. They stretched our CMs, cut down any space we had. Lucas was our link centrally to attack and he was swamped any time he received the ball; seemed like he was isolated and targeted.

When we had space second half because they couldn't keep up that intensity, and we adjusted, that's when I think he was trying too hard. Those central forward positions in and around the the box were the most frustrating, because Lucas was in the same space as Sonny, and he literally got in Sonny's way a few times.
