Who would you replace Winks with at the moment? Eriksen possibly. Lo Celso probably. No problems there then lol.

Id have played Eriksen. He's our best playmaker and because of their likely tactic of sitting deep, he wouldn't be required to have much defensive responsibility. He can just 'quarterback' from deep, but also has a shot from range ability too. Winks and Sissoko aren't ever going to do that. It's just another weapon in case things aren't going well. I'd have dragged Lamela at HT for Lo Celso.

We’d at least get the ball forward through Ndombele.

Our best CM partnership in recent times surely that 16/17 Dembele/Dier duo. Can’t say either of them particularly creative but it worked because one did one job, and the other moved the ball the right way

Of the losses (especially at home) in the last few years, I don't think I've been as mad about a result for years. That was absolute garbage from start to finish.

For me, the tactics of continually resorting to simply playing a possession game just moving the ball between players without actually creating scoring opportunities is an utter waste of time. It is so easy to play against. After 5 minutes I knew we would struggle to create scoring chances. Newcastle didn't bother to challenge or press when we had possession. If we actually were moving forward with the ball they simply fell back keeping their shape with 5 and 4 defending their penalty area. Presumably Poch thinks that suddenly gaps will appear for us to get through. With the high line Poch insists on means the opponents get opportunities to break dangerously with long balls and we are apt to concede against these breaks. Sadly there are a dozen or more teams in the bottom half who are clued up to playing against us and that is what we can expect for the rest of the season. I have no idea what Kane's roll is. He seems to spend more time on one of the wings with one of the other 3 playing in a forward central roll. When we played attacking teams last season and had spaces to attack through we were as good as the best in Europe. Unless we find a plan B when playing these teams who are happy to not press but sit back with 9 or 10 in defence (teams we should comfortably beat) we have no idea how to exploit them.
Having 80% of possession that only produces 2 shots on target tells me that possession football against teams that don't want to make a game of it but to simply sit back and defend will make it difficult for us to make top 4. But that is just my humble opinion.

Dier sits protects the defence, and ndombele gets forward and creates chances by passing forward as he's done so far this season. Even Dier distribution isn't side to side and backwards.

I did say that we'd have a slow start to the season and are a strong second half. Ok, didn't expect us to lose to Newcastle and there's no excuses on that but there is so many little issues that need to click into place before we can get into flow.

Lo Celso bedded in and comfortable with his role.
Ndombele bedded in and used in the right midfield combo.
Eriksen situation
Toby situation
Jan situation
Sanchez run of games to get his confidence back up.
Foyth at RB - think we'll be much better when he's in.


Once these issues are resolved and we have more time together on the training ground we should start to see things click.

We've had plenty of games over the last 2-3 seasons as well with Eriksen when we have failed to break these teams. Somone will always say the ones who arent playing where the answer though.

What a shower of losers. The script is written in stone for this season. Two sides are at least as far out in front as they were last season, and everyone else is just going through the motions.

That was abysmal. Not testing their keeper throughout is unforgivable. And this isnt the only time it'll happen this season.

All this game did for me was confirm fears I’ve been having for a few months now.

This isn’t bad form, it’s far too terminal for that now.

I read a stat that this is the 10th game in 12 that we’ve gone behind first.

When was the last time we dominated a game and won it comfortably with an excellent performance? We were shit for 80 minutes against Villa, very shit against city but lucky and now garbage against Newcastle. This has been going on for ages.

The last time I’ve genuinely enjoyed a spurs game was the first leg against Dortmund. We’re not fun to watch anymore and Poch clearly doesn’t fancy the job anymore either.

Something has to change.

Totally agree. Tbh the issue today was the lack of singing. The atmosphere was garbage and all the fans did was moan and slag off players. Totally embarrassed on and off the pitch by Newcastle.

Just saw and tbf he didn't try to justify it. I hope he was as fuming as we will all be and despite the usual cliche bollocks that comes out, we actually see a 'reaction' next weekend.


Or it could be the usual at the Emirates. They'll be up for it like they always are. We'll start shit and be lucky if we aren't 2 down in 20 mins.
