I also think the fans there today need to quit with the boos. This is not what Conte would have wanted to play, but we have no forwards. Liverpool have not been light years ahead of us. They have been the beneficiary of some absolutely shocking defending. I'd probably go so far as to say we need to get Sanchez on to combat Nunez and bench one of Dier or Lenglet.

Emerson isn't the issue today either. I mean he could be more of a threat, but Doherty isn't going to make a massive difference.
We have three forwards sitting on the bench watching an antique fullback play up front.

Nothing to do with the formation. It is about how that formation is pressing and NOT pressing, We have 3 people in midfield yet noone wants the ball. it is all about the mentality and how they players in that formation are ALLOWED to play.
I’ve played and coached to a paid level and I can tell you that in a 5-3-2 the LCM and RCM have to push out to the wide full backs in a 4-3-3 pushing on because if the wing backs do it then there are big spades left behind.

In a 3-4-3 the front 3 can do that job.

It’s not that no-one in the midfield 3 want the ball it’s that when they get it they have no options to pass to apart from into the front 2 who just get shut off by liverpools CB’s and CDM.

Add to that our wing backs are good enough / threatening enough in behind.

I said before this game started if we start with 3-5-2 we will offer nothing going forwards and give the game to them and so it has played out exactly like that.

We switch to 3-4-3 with Lucas Gil Kulu etc on and we will cause them way more issues, sure we might concede but we’ve already conceded 2 and could’ve been more so it can’t be any worse.

Yes he has made mistakes but what about all the times he has saved us? His been a great servant.
But I do feel it's time for a change now due to his age and a goalie better with his feet.

won't disagree that he's been a great servant. but he's also cost us at times, when truly too keepers don't.

think we can also agree that regardless, we need to move on.

Way too passive to start the game, went 1-0 down.

Then most of the first half was a bit scrappy and low quality, had a few moments giving us a glimmer of hope without really looking threatening or exerting any pressure and definitely looking the ropier team.

But have completely fucked ourselves with the second goal. Awful from Dier, absolutely awful. Hugo fucking dithers as well - Salah's touch gets away from him a bit and he should be right out on top of him, and making him chip it over him from point blank range, rather than sitting on the floor and making it easy.

Yes it's hard when your attacking options are depleted, yes its a tough schedule, but this is more of the same really - too passive and zero energy and not acceptable. And at the start of the season we had a solid defensive unit doing enough to compensate for a misfiring attacking unit, now - inevitably - the likes of Dier, Davies, etc, have dipped in form and we have big problems. There are problems that need addressing from back to front.

Also pretty rage inducing that Sessegnon is the only player seemingly capable of gambling and making some sort of proper run/option to receive the ball in a semi-dangerous situation. I don't know if the rest of them can't, won't, or just don't have the mental capacity to see a picture and make the run and gamble it comes to them, but it's another aspect where we're so limited.

Dier needs replaceing. He’s a backup centre CB at best. Conte isn’t wrong when he says we still to spend big time. At least 2 CB, a Lloris replacement, 2x wingbacks and a number 10. The thing is Liverpool are shit atm and we’re gifting them 3 points.

This Liverpool side got beaten by both Nottingham and Leeds. An early goal from us and the game is very much back on.

The poor performing ones mainly are not Conte's players. His players are playing fine and in fact very well - Bentancur, Kulu, Richy even Bissouma will be. If we changed Dier, Davies, Emerson, Sanchez and Sess to his players, we can definitely improve.
Even if we had richarlison and Lulu on the pitch we'd be a different team.

Hopefully levy dips back into his.overdraft in the transfer window.

As expected. Must win for Liverpool who have shown the quality required to get something from a crucial game. Lots for us to learn still.

this is a great post.

the problem here is the way Conte views the game. he'd much rather shut up shop and lose 2-0 against a good side, than risk a 4 odd goal beating by going for it.

i won't expect any changes at ht.
