Ok, just woke up to a dream that we lost 2-0 with a first minute penalty given against us. Hope the lads be mindful about that and don't give away silly penalty. The bindippers played like shit, we can win this. So excited for the game now.

People keep going on about how Liverpool were there for the taking. Both teams were. Both teams looked sloppy and turgid, especially in the final third.

The differences came down to finishing. They capitalised on two errors. We were crap and indecisive in the final third, much like Liverpool. I said from the start that not stating Moura was a mistake but beyond that it was a slow, ponderous game for both teams.

The net result is we leave without the trophy but the bile and vitriol angled out at some of our players and Poch is over the top. Like Klopp, I’m sure Poch will learn and evolve from this, as will Levy and the club

The amount of people I've seen say Kane had to start now changing their tune is laughable. I got plenty disagreeing with me that match fitness and physical fitness are two different things. Ankle may have healed up but being match sharp is a completely different animal.

If we lost either way Poch would have got slaughtered. Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

Our sheer lack of conviction is what really hurts this morning. So much possession, more chances, no belief.

Wanted to wait till this morning before posting my thoughts on the game.

Honestly heartbroken that we didn’t win, but still happy that we managed to make it to the final against all odds. The fairytale just wasn’t meant to be.

How we move forward from this is more important than the result. Get a proper preseason in with some fresh faces and hopefully we can kick on from this and not regress.

Regardless, well done to the boys for the season and thanks to everyone who has contributed to the forum and conversations over the past few months.

Now is the time to watch what Levy and co are going to do in terms of investing in this squad.

I agree with everything apart from the last sentence. I have no real reason or evidence to back that up.

still hurts. didn't give a good account of ourselves at all but tbh that was like pretty much every performance since the Burnley game in Feb, slow, ponderous and lacking creativity.

either our players are completely gassed or they've stopped responding to Poch

It hurts more knowing it was there for us to take, they were dead on their feet and any equaliser in the last 15 would i am sure led to us getting the winner.
Its done now, i am not going to drive myself crazy with ifs and buts.
Harry starting didn't work out,but i would have started him too, Salah ,Firmino and Marne were just as poor, as was Son and Dele, so lets not start hammering Poch or Harry, Harry has been the main reason we are in the CL to begin with.

Poch will be backed, and we will be better for this experience, its not easy to go from nothing to champions , teams rarely achieve this, we will grow and we will come again.

Seasons done and it was a massive success, though it might not feel like it right now.

Understand that, but multiple sources are telling us Levy will spend this summer and early indications suggest that.

Time will tell, but I know exactly what you mean

Was a weird setup from klopp too. He obviously learned from last years final.

Any team that sits deep against us, we're always going to struggle against.
This.

Klopp did his homework. High risk and it paid off.

Really gutted Poch lost out so bad tactically in a match that matters... His stubborness remained at the wrong time.

I don't think we played as badly as people on here are making out. We had lots of good possession, some good chances, and defended very well on the whole. But we were generally a little slow and timid, and we lacked a really effective mobile forward who could hold the ball up. Liverpool defended well and kept us at bay.
Ok, he's coming back from injury, but I am starting to get a bit worried about Kane. Injuries aside, he hasn't played well for a long time, and he looks like a shadow of the amazing player of two years ago. Hope he can sort himself out so that we can see him at his best again. It was a mistake to play him.

We start Kane and lose and poch is criticised for playing Kane.

We dont start with kane and lose and poch is criticised for not starting Kane.

Too many people here think they know better, honestly, shut the fuck up, there's a reason why you're not a football manager and poch is.

Twats.

No need to insult other posters.. Let the strength of your argument be convincing... Now on to your point.

I'm of the view that Kane should not have started. I'm in the camp that felt Moura was done an injustice. Poch has done this repeatedly over the last 2-3 seasons where Kane is " fit" after an injury layoff and is brought straight back into the team, particularly where we have been firing and playing really well as a team. I'm not sure what it does to team dynamics or moral, where you drop a vital member of a winning team and play Kane from the outset.... Why not introduce him later in the game?

We got through City away and two semi finals without Kane... Why did we need him from the outset in this game.

That is Poch's greatest shortcoming as a coach /manager. He needs to select his team without blinding loyalty to a player.

Having said all of the above we had a brilliant CL campaign.. Never expected us in the final. The one positive is that perhaps everyone at the club & Enic can see what we have.... and what we can achieve by investing in the 1st team but with the correct level of players.

I just hope both teams do the country proud and show Europe just why the Premier league is the best weekly standard of football in the world.

Look what I typed yesterday.....sigh....in this respect the two of them let me down.

The issue wasn't Kane starting, it was Dele starting over Moura. Honestly I'm so sick of his flicks and tricks. Kane was bad but he at least tried to hold the ball up.

Getting the ball kicked against your chest onto your armpit is in the make up of this team?

Fuck a duck you should have placed a bet on it rather than saying it to your brother in law before the kick off, just think of the riches you'd be enjoying now ...

You know it’s true though. Just like 4mins in the Ajax game. We don’t do things the easy way. The way the actual penalty came about out was more because the gods of football love screwing over Tottenham Hotspur in the biggest moments

People keep saying Levy needs to bring in new players and I agree but I'd also like us to show ambition by keeping our players as well.

Ok Eriksen ,, Trippier and Ali have been far from their best for a while but they have all showed in the past the sort of form that makes them put in match winning performances. I'd like them to be part of a squad that has been added to with five or six more players and let them fight to get a place in it!

We do need some players moved on, namely Lamela and Aurier imo!

Man, it just feels so disappointing to lose like that. While the penalty decision was so soft Sissoko shouldn't have had his hand raised for so long in the box. That is why you normally see players in the box have their arms behind their backs. I'm not sure if he was telling trip to cover the run down the line or what. Such a shame as he's had an excellent season. But it really cost us.

Was watching with 10 of my friends and we all said don't concede in the first 10 mins then that happens. Was such a kick in the nuts.

I know people said "we dominated the game look at the possession" but I feel that was mostly Lloris, Toby and Verts playing triangles in our box. I don't know what the game plan was there, probably as its been most of the season but it didn't really look like working at all. We moved the ball incredibly slowly.

I said before the game I wanted us to play a front 3 of Son - Kane - Lucas. I standby that. The problem would have been who to play in the midfield 3. Before the game I would have said Dele - Sissoko - Eriksen. But in hindsight i would have played Eriksen - Winks - Sissoko. Dele has been so disappointing for me for a long time.

Feel that the game flew by despite not a lot happening. We didn't seem to show any urgency until late on.

I'm happy we made the final but disappointed with our performance. Oh well, that's football.
