Well, it gives us an extra nine days to sign a striker or two. As well as bringing our injured players nine days closer to fitness.

Playing your first league game of the season at Old Trafford on a Monday night isn't ideal, but we can't do any worse than we usually do up there. Hopefully, because of the delay to our season kicking off, our players will be chomping at the bit when we get to Manchester.

It might end up actually helping us to not lose the game for a change.

Do you not think that maybe 'they' have had other things to worry about?

Possibly, but ive my spurs head on and im gutted.

Taking away the fact the police should have acted quicker in the first place.

The trouble took place in Tottenham on Saturday, the rest of London has been quiet since Tuesday.

This game could have gone ahead, I dont doubt that.

On the main route into the game there is a building that is massively structurally unsound.

The last pictures I saw had rubble everywhere.

The police have been stretched across the City and now across the Country.

The main aim of the authorities has been to stop the rioting and help those who have lost everything as a result. Do you really think getting this game on was a priority?

We're all annoyed but come on mate...have a little bit of perspective for fucks sake.

Sorry Im not having that.

When the G20 (which was known about and so they were prepared for it) got a bit hairy, they started kettling and got absolutely hammered for it.
This time (which came from pretty much absolutely nowhere. No warning whatsoever that it was going to kick off in such a huge way) they concentrated more on containment and guess what, they are getting hammered for it.

Damned if they do, damned if they don't.

Not that could safely take the number of fans that would come.

Plus you have to think of the Everton fans getting there by coach etc.

It's a sensible idea to call it off on all counts. Pissing irritating...but sensible.

Why? Sorry TSH I just don't see it, if they'd wanted to manage it they could have. If it's pedestrians then they can easily walk round the problem area, if it's cars they can manage the traffic flow around it, around the Hale, North Circ etc.
Just saw the mayor talking tough but it clearly means nothing in light of handing this victory to the scumbags.

It's a fucking football match. Some people round there have lost everything and the area is probably still in shock.

I really don't think that cancelling a game of football counts as 'handing victory to the scumbags'.

It's a sensible decision that will help a policeforce already knackered, battered and bruised.

that is going to cause problems for our fixture list because of congestion. When are we going to play them with all those stupid europa league games clogging up midweek?

Ok, ive perspectived the situation.

Thinking about it, its probably got nothing to do with the actual policing of the game but more to do with the area surrounding the ground.

Its just annoying its the first game and all, but being sensible there is nothing they could really do.

And I do think they could have done more, although that isnt the Polices thought. Its poxy human rights, if people act like criminals they should be treated like them...not "contained"

I think they should postpone all the games really, so no team gets an advantage over another.

Plus we need all the police we can get at the mo, as anarchy has spread to a lot of cities in England at the mo.

we could always lose to Hearts and not have to worry about those pesky midweek games clogging us up

Then cancel all games and let all Police rest.

As it stands the game hasn't been called off because of the mental state of the local residents the reason given is because the police won't close the crime scene until Friday and the council therefore won't clear up until after that, god knows when.
I appreciate the terrible shock people have had but that isn't why it's been cancelled and you mark my words some people will be taking kudos for this cancellation.
The prime minister is now talking about the fight back having begun and invoking the spirit of the Blitz, I'm afraid this doesn't symbolize the blitz spirit.
We'll probably not agree on this I know but I am more than pissed off about this postponement.

Well yes, now I think most people would agree with you. But during the G20 thats what they did, and they got slaughtered for it.

I dont think it is to do with human rights. Its because we police by consent. The police need the support of the general population. Like I said they are kind of damned if they do and damned if they don't at the moment. The public needs to make its mind up how they want the police to police.

I think that this whole situation will open a much wider national debate about parenting, discipline, law and order, and many other things besides, which is at least one positive to take from this whole mess.
