The fact we looked a bit better tonight means nothing at all, bottom line is that performance was unacceptable

I’m honestly scratching my head at those of you saying “well there was an improvement in the second half at least”...how fucking low are your bars? We’re at home and we tested the goalkeeper ONCE. That performance was fucking pathetic from 0 to 90.

Sorry mate but I simply cannot agree with that in any way, shape or form. We got what we deserved from that match, nothing.

We have regressed massively over the last 2-3 weeks. Previously, even giving up the possession like we did, you could see we were controlling the pitch, making teams play where we wanted them to. Then it all went to shit after that loss at Anfield. Now we have absolutely nothing. No control, no shape, no clue. Our counter is either non existent or so slow their defenders run towards their goal faster than we do.

The team is broken atm.

I agree on the state of the team right now... anybody can see that. That being said, I choose not to give Chelsea the glowing respect that many here seem to want to. They had chances, sure and kudos to them, but like it or not they fluffed most of them while we absorbed the rest. Would you say that when we beat City, (despite them dominating the possession and chances) deserved to win as well?

Missing Reguilon massively. Drop in form coexists with his injury. Shame we let Sess go out on loan, would be perfect cover.

We only played 45 minutes
and lost by a penalty.
Much improved 2nd. half
but why concede the first?
But a loss
is a loss
however you spin it.
Chelsea marginally better than us.
We're not quite in free-fall.

This is the question. I think he clearly knows where our weakness on the pitch are. not sure we could get to that point without all our better players wanting out though.

It really is a stick or trust moment for me. If we persist with him until the end of season we have to back him. Really unsure how this plays out now. I'm tempted to say let's see after Kane and Dele return to see if he will play NDom in behind Kane Dele and Son. It could make all the difference.
Ok our N.1 weakness, for me, is that we treat the ball like a boomerang and invite pressure onto ourselves, we play with fear and without any ideas. Even when doing well this was our biggest weakness but I don’t see any real attempt to address this. I hope to see it but. You can point the blame at say the defence or chance creation, but all of these are vague and empty phrases, what matters is why it’s going wrong.

for me the idea we don’t press as a unit is an issue for sure, and it’s not helped that our defence doesn’t push up with the midfield, or you can lightly press and retain a solid block, that’s also fine and we do it a lot, though not always perfectly. But our real issues are not what we do without the ball but what we do on the ball.

I hope it can change but I have seen no evidence of that, and in fact I worry that Mourinho’s reaction to mistakes just makes us more scared of the possibility of making mistakes and promotes this fearful, safety first approach.

I would like to point out that I have made at least ten posts on this thread without blaming any individual player by name.

Try it sometime. It’s a good shortcut to improved analysis and understanding.
But was one of those posts "fuck me that player playing in between Toby and Davies is absolute horseshit!"

Sure sounds like you :cautious:

I think you answered your own question. The bar is on the ground.

I'm concerned with the players we have.

They are above average to start with, but they are regressing astonishingly. They are now even lacking the basics of what a professional football premiership level players should possess - sprinting, strength, passing, dribbles. I don't even hope for them to shoot. But at least get the ball to the dangerous areas, get past a few guys, string some nice one touches passes, run into space. They are doing none of these.

Mourinho can ask them to stop attacking for all I care, fact is even the defending they are executing are atrocious - being run past even with 2 marking 1, got spinned away, losing serial duels, always a step behind in getting to 2nd balls and all.

They are regressing into deadwood. If they have any ounce of professionalism left, please, they need to show some dignity and effort. They are embarrasing themselves and also the club.

Sorry but no way Jose turns this around. Most fans are already welcoming his exit, he’s alienated players and top of that has no clue how to play on the front foot.

Holding onto him longer is suicide for me. Caretaker til the summer then regroup.

To the Mourinho fanboys, here's the killer question. Assuming we need a rebuild which probably we can all agree on. Do you give Mourinho that job? Has he shown enough to make you think he deserves that?

Yes, in summary.

You don’t hire one of the biggest managers in history, hand him a stale squad who downed tools for their previous manager who was highly respected and had tenure, give him one summer transfer window to sort out the team (during an unprecedented global pandemic), fail to shift much/any of the dead wood in the squad, and then sack him off the back of a spell of shit form 6 weeks after spending a month atop the league, thinking someone else would have done any better in the same timeframe with the same conditions.

That performance was diabolical. The Brighton performance was diabolical. The Liverpool performance was simply capitulation. But to assume any other manager would do a better job with this shit show is nothing more than baseless conjecture.

If this was a “young” manager like Nagelsmann, Howe, Pochettino, or even sodding Potter, everyone on here would insist that, on balance, they deserve more time to get it all together when all circumstances are taken into account.

I can’t think of a more idiotic move right now than dismissing the most decorated manager we’ve ever had, and in turn making ourselves into the basket case that even the great Jose Mourinho couldn’t fix.

On that basis, as woeful as these performances are, he should be given at least until the end of the season when things can be reassessed in a more objective way.

Isn't it more telling that we never looked like we were actually in this game despite a below par Chelsea? I don't know what point you're trying to make mate.

Come on marginally better! 18 shots to 7 they completely dominated the ball and we were a home we got bashed
