32.5 million pounds for Benteke seems an awful lot of money for someone so inconsistent

Bit silly. Townsend is decent on the bench. Capable of turning a game and getting a goal. Don't see the point in going 1 step back for one forward all the time.

Get rid of Kabul, Paulinho and all the other dross.

Especially as Kane would be first choice. I'd rather spend £12m on Austin and keep Soldado for European games/third choice.
Understand the while Kane sentiment, however I will rather have two first choice strikers on the same level competing than one main striker and the other playing second fiddle.

Not long ago, we had 4, berb, Keane, Defoe, bent.

Having one main striker is just putting us in a difficult situation when it comes to player burn out, loss of form, injuries.

I haven't seen many signs of Townsend being a game changer. And goalscoring ? When ?

Like Townsend as an impact sub but I think that could be the perfect role for Yedlin. Not sure about Benteke. Looks a real streak player and has been used to being the big cheese at Villa.

Defoe and Bent were generally pretty unhappy and we were playing 442 a lot. A player like Benteke (or Kane) won't be happy on the bench for long. Think Benteke would be a decent signing but I just don't see how it would work tbh.

The tabloids are just plain silly. Sherwood won't sell unless he gets the release fee met & has stated as much. All this talk from Sherwood & Fox about Benteke's contract is just a ploy to drum-up interest in a player they know plays in fits & bursts; if they can get a patsy to bid in for a player who 'on his day is unplayable,' then its happy-days for Sherwood. How many players have had this said about them? Its unreal how much this phrase gets bandied around these days.

The other point they fail to mention is that since we're looking at players in the widely-reported £15-20million bracket, then unless Townsend is valued at £15 million, all this conjecture is a moot point. I'd rather keep Townsend than use him to bring in a striker we don't need, or want.

Playing with a single striker makes it difficult to keep two #1 strikers happy. Whoever comes in will have to be content playing behind Kane, or have the ability to get playing time at either wing.

I think it's possible to keep a decent number 2 happy with Europa and the other cups, also, Poch needs to keep Kane fresher for the run in next season with some 60min subs when the fixtures stack up.
Not sure about Benteke but in an ideal world we would have:

Kane
No.2
Martial/Chadli

I doubt this. Firstly it's a lot of money, then Benteke will expect to be first choice and finally, we shouldn't move on Townsend until we know what's going on with Lennon. To lose two wingers and a shed load of cash for a striker who won't start doesn't sound like Levy. I like Benteke he's got all the attributes to be a top striker but this deal at this point doesn't seem right.
