We gave them a friendly, what more do they want?!
We didn't make the rules and tbh honest, they were lucky to get what we offered.

International week means a slow news week, so they're digging this old story up again to full space.

They didn't. We just haven't been able to agree a sum as they want to recoup what they initialy paid.

That'll learn me to not read the article, I generally don't click media links! On that basis, I would add that I assume they agreed to let him go to us without agreeing a fee? If so, not particularly a smart move.

They didn't have a choice, his contract was voided due to the war.

In that case, I hope – and I'm sure we will – be fair in our valuation. Problem for them is if we value him based on what we have seen since he joined us. I guess this is where the problem arises?

So we’re probably billing them monthly then?

"Shakhtar paid Maccabi Petah Tikva €6.5 million ($7.05m) for the winger in January 2019 and believe he had a market value of €20m."

Firstly, his contract was voided. Not our doing. Secondly, even if it wasn't he had 6 months left on his contract. His worth would only be 20m with a contract behind him, not 6 months. Throw them a couple of million at most as would be fair and if they still refuse then just walk away.

To be honest, I don't blame Shakhtar at all. We have taken the piss here and it wasn't very ethical of us.

My understanding is that we signed a free agent, after he opted against returning to Ukraine and terminated his contract (in line with FIFA regs), but made a gesture of good will in the form a a friendly with all gate reciepts donated.

Well from reading an article on the spurs website about it, it was donated to Shakhtar social and not the club itself.

I think we could give them the money back they paid for Solomon.

I thought that was the whole point of the friendly - giving them the gate receipts.
Me too. Didn't really need to do that even tbh but good will and PR etc.

They can miss me with this tantrum guff. They'll end up only costing themselves more in legal fees in the end.

I believe they're going after Lyon over a similar situation.

Their beef should be with FIFA not us. We technically signed a free agent, and laid on a charitable friendly for them when we didn't have to. Can't believe this is still a thing?
