Been following the Vucinic- Guarin saga from Di Marzio's account.

Absolutely bonkers!

That Ranocchia to Dortmund rumour is funny as well.

Can we sell them Naughton for 15 million while they're out shopping for defenders?
Or let's say a Naughton/Dawson/Khumalo triple pack for a friendly price of 40 million :sneaky:

When did Sky Sports UK get the Coppa Italia?

They just advertised four live games this week.

I saw that after the United game. ESPN had the Coppa games last year and I thought it'd be BT Sports showing them this year. They must've lost out. I normally watch it on Rai, but I'll watch it on Sky since it's got a better picture quality. Interested to hear what the English commentators/pundits make of the teams too.

This is my first experience of Italian football in a long, long time.

The general consencus is that it is a slow League etc, but I have always struggled with this conception when watching the likes of Juve and Napoli in the Champions League - they are anything but 'slow'.

Are they the exceptions, or am I just plain wrong?

But 60 minutes in, and it hasn't been great I have to admit. I can understand why this would be a tension-filled game however.

I'd say players have more time on the ball so the games are slower as a result.

It's not a boring league, that's a boring stereotype that many fall back on.

This game is tense but Roma should have scored two tap in's.

Well the match wasn't the best, but the female presenter fronting the Sky coverage was just on another level.

Move out the way Gabby Logan.

They 'signed' her from Sky Germany, she's got good credentials (being serious).

I didn't watch the game last night as I was playing football, I had a feeling Roma would win as Juve weren't taking it seriously in the build up.

Italian football isn't as boring as people make out. Juve, Napoli and Roma this year have been very good teams to watch. As @tobi said it seems slower because you've got more time on the ball. It's part of the reason why I think Lamela isn't firing on all cylinders for us, he's used to more space and you can see this by the way he plays. Players don't tend to transition well from Serie A to Premier League.

It's funny because I genuinely think it's a better league than La Liga, despite all the praise La Liga gets. Yes, of course I'm biased, but La Liga really grates on me whenever I watch it. I find Serie A to be more competitive, and a lot more balanced when it comes to attack/defence. I like the style of the Bundesliga more too, despite the annoying dominance of Bayern. Then again, I'm a Juve fan, and we're generally dominant too. :p

La Liga has a serious problem that stops it from being a good league - being in such thrall to the Big 2 that they can demand a third of the money generated by the league right just for themselves and apparently see no problem with that. Yes they're probably the best two clubs in the world, but when there are so many other at risk of administration and being wound up in their country their hoarding of that money is only going to damage them long-term. Atleti may be challenging them at the moment but it won't last, they'll be ripped to pieces in the summer again and their ability to maintain anything will come down to finding more replacements.

The switch to collective bargaining by Serie A has made the league stronger overall despite it hitting the likes of Milan and Juve in the wallet, but it's short-term sacrifice for long-term gain for all, and that's a good thing for all the clubs. Juve have found themselves pulling away the last few seasons for sure, but a lot of that is down to incredibly shrewd deals such as getting the likes of Vidal, Lichtsteiner, Barzagli and Tevez for relative pittances, or picking up Pirlo, Pogba and Llorente all on frees. There's nothing stopping other Serie A clubs from finding that right formula and challenging them, as Roma have proven this season.

Well the impression I got from last nights game certainly wasn't one of a slow and defensive minded game, which tends to be the criticism aimed at Italian football.

One thing I did pick up on was the style of officials, they seemed to react to the reactions of players and managers etc before making decisions. Very bizarre.

Last night, players certainly weren't afforded time on the ball, maybe due to the nature of the game (top two facing each other etc). It took Pjanic to come on and inject some real quality in to the game.

I do like those Chileans for Juve mind. They impressed me without really playing well too.

I will watch the rest of the games this week, hopefully garner a greater appreciation for the Italian way.

I always watch the Spanish games (mainly due to the favourable time they are on), beyond the top 3 the League is not great. Until the gap closes between the top and bottom, that League will never compete with the Premier League or Bundesliga.

It's a bit strange, the reffing in Italy. I get your point about reacting to players and managers, and I do think this is true to an extent. I find that the refs seem to allow play to carry on a lot more. People get frustrated with Italian teams in Europe when there's a lot of shoving and obstruction in the box at set pieces. This is purely down to it being the norm in Italy. The refs really take a lenient stance on this. They seem more content to allow the physical side of the game carry on. When you then watch a Premier League game you get the opposite, referees stopping the game for the faintest of touches, too much protection for the players. Having said that players in Italy tend to over-exaggerate fouls more, and perhaps this is because of the refs trying to encourage play to continue.

Make sure you catch the Fiorentina V Siena match - should (hopefully) be a great Tuscan derby with a bit less of the nastiness you get from things like the Rome derby. And now Siena are in Serie B it has actual cupset potential!
And Fiorentina are just terrific to watch.

Juve's winning streak finally ends at 12 games. Buffon's red card was deserved and I think it was a fair result really.

Very confused by the way the ref ended the game. Juve were in the middle of an attack in the box, the ball was in the air as it was being headed back and forth, and as the ball was falling to Pogba who was unmarked on the right hand side of the penalty area the ref decideds to blow the whistle. Looked very strange.

Yep, the sending off was fair - did you see Buffon messing about with it with Klose bearing down on him a few minutes earlier? Talk about living dangerously!

I think it says a lot about just how strong Juve are that they looked far likelier to win that game as it went on! Am very pleased for Llorente that he's finally proving his worth.

He does this a lot, gotten worse over the years in fact. He's instructed to play it short to defenders all the time as Conte likes to build up play from the back but he often plays himself into trouble. It's known as a "Buffonata" moment to us Juve fans. In Italian "buffonata" translates as clowning around, mucking about or something that's farcical. It's quite an apt play on words in this instance.

As for Llorente - I'm utterly delighted that he's settled in well. At one point the media were saying he was going to be a flop and that he made the wrong choice. Conte knew what he was doing, he eased him into the league slowly and is now reaping the rewards. I love watching him and Tevez together, a very complimentary partnership.
