And the team news for last weekend's game said he was on course for a return to training "later in the year." That don't sound too good, does it?

Didn't hear that. Doesn't surprise me though, given the vague nature of his injury and strange circumstances surrounding it.

I honestly think we need to forgot he exists for squad planning purposes. Plan without him. And when doing that it becomes clear that only Eriksen and to a much lesser extent Winks have any real creativity in the squad. Dele can pick a clever assist, but it's much more off the cuff and inconsistent.

We need more creative players than we need defenders imo.

Watched a 10 min video of him this morning on ol' youtube. Things to note:

- Kid LOVES a slide tackle and
- Plays with tons of confidence, doesn't appeared to be scared of anything!
- Major similarities to the way Walker plays but arguably looks stronger physically if maybe not quite as quick - there's definitely not much in it though. Flys past opposing full backs with ease on numerous occasions.
- May need to calm down a bit as he can be a bit rash in the challenge and could see him rackin up a few cards in this league.

Like many I'm feeling cautious about his potential character issues but there is no doubt that from a footballing perspective he would be a perfect replacement for Walker.
He reminds me more of a right footed version of Danny Rose who doesn't shy away from slide tackles himself. Also seems to like a mazy run and a pop at goal from time to time. Walker may be faster running a straight line sprint but unless there is clear space in front of him so that he can kick and chase, Walker is not that fast with the ball at his feet. But like you, this is my impression from a highlight reel so I don't know what his typical play is like.

I agree on Lamela, and agree that creativity further forward is at least as important as the full backs at the moment.

Only time will tell if it's one or the other though, or whether we're going for everything.

Jonathan Woodgate was in prison for racially aggravated assault.
Ledley King racially abused a night club bouncer before threatening him with being beaten up.
Rafael Van der Vaart hit his ex wife during a row.

People make bad mistakes which they regret and learn from, if this guy has reformed as a person, educated himself, then he deserves a clean slate should we sign him and to be treated no differently to any other player at the club.

Edit: Woodgate was in fact only sentence to community service for beating the shit out of someone, he wasn't found guilty of a racially aggravated offence, nor did he serve time behind bars.

Couldn't really care less. They do it with Kane, doesn't change the fact he scores against them all the time.
Absolutely. Fuck them. Anybody else notice the worse and more irrelevant that they are gradually becoming the more obsessed with us they are?

I know it is hard to ignore the elephant in the room with this possible signing, but just as a fan, this would be a massive signing if it were to come off.

Sorry but that first point is just wrong. Jonathan Woodgate did not serve a prison sentence, for racially aggravated assault or any other offence. He was sentenced to 100 hours of community service for affray. In fact, the original trial collapsed precisely because the Sunday Mirror ran an interview with the victim's dad in which he claimed it was a racist attack, even though both sides accepted during the trial that it had not been racially motivated.

Am I the only one realllly not looking forward to the gooners posting that horrible picture of him in their shirt if/when he signs?
I saw this elsewhere about their similar obsession with Harry Kane:

Arsenal fans and Kane: a bit like someone coming up to you on your wedding day and saying they held hands with your new wife in year 4.

That Alonso twats murdered someone didn't stop him ruining my Sunday so yeah I get your drift I mean it's not like Serge has murdered someone although wearing that arsenal top is close enough.

Aurier would be the perfect replacement for Walker and also has time due to his age to improve and especially under Poch I'm sure he will only get better. The guys a beast and plays with aggression, tenacity and pace and we need that in our team.

Im really not bothered at all about his past troubles because at the end of the day were all human and if we are this close down the line to a deal I would put my complete trust in Poch in making Aurier not only a better player but also a better person. Poch's man management skills is one of the best in the business.

This would be a massive signing of intent and really hope this transfer happens.

Even if I am misinformed on the motivation and punishment, he was still found guilty of beating the shit out of someone but worked his way back to being accepted as a person and succeeding as a footballer, idolised as a cup winning goal scorer. My point still very much stands.

Make no mistake, Aurier needs to be vetted carefully as he has made visible mistakes for which his reputation has been deservedly damaged. But he is no less deserving of redemption than anybody else.

The term bureaucracy has its roots in French for a reason. Don't hold your breath on this being sorted out imminently.

They will have to be careful, There could be be redress for preventing the following of his career, it will or should be dealt with, with due diligence.

meh, we have photo's of Kane in an Arsenal kit, not overly fussed about such things.

Couldn't really care less. They do it with Kane, doesn't change the fact he scores against them all the time.
In those pics, Kane looks fat, ugly and stupid (which he obviously is not any longer). If that's what Arsenal fans want to identify themselves with, why should we stop them?
