How is his last name pronounced?

My 4 yrs of high school French (in America, mind you...so it was worthless) have me thinking it's "Oh-ree-ay" or something like that.

Close enough. Basically that's right except to have a properly French accent, you need to make sure you don't round off the Au too much so it's sort of like the O in "Oh" but without the "W" sound you at the end when you round your lips. Plus obviously you have to do the French R in the back of your throat/roof of the mouth.

It's hard to describe but your can hear a couple of French people saying it it here: https://forvo.com/word/serge_aurier/

This place will melt if it's refused, but we can appeal it. Honestly can't see a reason why it would be denied, so far he's only guilty of being a bit of a dick. He meets all other criteria for it being granted. One thing I am concerned about is if we sign him and his appeal is heard, and then quashed were proper fucked out of £20m odd.

@BehindEnemyLines what do u disagree with?

I'm sitting here trying to think of an equivalent English sound to the French "au" and as far as I can see it doesn't exist. It's just like a short "oh". I live in Aude in France, which has the same starting noise, and that's pronounced like this or this (I guess there's only so much you can do to jazz up a video about pronouncing a single word).

Presumably the part where you suggest assaulting a police officer only makes him a bit of a dick

No he hasn't, so what's your point?

Point me to one piece of evidence he hasn't been cleared ?

Just to add to the discussion, if that's the case why is everyone other than you on here discussing whether the Work Permit has been successful or not ?

Just for clarification, if he hadn't been cleared there would be no point in applying for a Work Permit as it would have been denied.

So what is YOUR point ?? :)

He's appealing his conviction but as things stand, he has in no way shape or form been "cleared" of it. If you just google it then that's all over the place, but to give one example, HERE is an article from a couple of hours ago that says that.

Regarding the work permit, you're not entirely correct. If he does have the conviction upheld, then it's extremely difficult for him to be given a work permit, however, as it also explains in that article, he can be granted one under exceptional circumstances. That's exactly what the whole decision that we're all waiting for is, so I'm not really sure what you mean. What did you think this decision was about?

I think u missed the "allegdly", until the appeal is heard surely? I wasn't a big fan of signing him but he's deserved a fair trial.

If his conviction is upheld he's going to jail, simple as that.

I'm really sorry mate but you've lost me completely as you say he's still appealing his conviction ? Every one other than you says it's been overturned already.

If you're right and it's still pending there's zero chance of it being completed this late on as the Home Office has to receive that notification before they can even start to process of granting a Work Permit.

So your assessment is that our Club are incompetent tossers who don't know what they're doing ?

If its denied, we wont appeal it for that reason. Too much of a risk. We'll just be left short further(we'll already be left short in attack as is)
