It's simply because England do not have the quality of players the media like to think they do - England produce technically inferior players to the majority of European (careful) countries. The reason for this has to be down to the coaching from early ages up and a complete lack of focus on U21's, etc. I honestly think that if you take an average eastern European international player (or virtually any other European region) you will see a technically skilled better player than virtually any England international. Every now and again England produce a player that has decent technical ability but they are surrounded by 9 or 10 others who can barely make a 5 yard pass.
Its true now and it's been true for the past 40 years.
I`m not convinced by this. But, I`m sure you have some good points. But, If you think about it, Iceland actually won today. They have poor players, but are well-organised with probably the right mentality. Italy have three fantastic defenders, but the rest of the players are nothing to brag about. Serie A is zero to what it used to be, and many of the italian players play for mid-level clubs like Torino etc. Still they beat Spain today. Just because they are well-organised and have the right mentality.
England might not be famous for its well-organised people in the same way as the germans, but the italians are certainly not famous for it at all, but still they are organised on a football pitch. So, there`s no reason why the english team can`t be organised and expoit its potential fully. History has also shown that there`s nothing wrong with the mentality of the english people. And your players play in PL with great players from around the world. Actually some of the best players in the world dominate in PL..
Well, well.. What team will you english support now at the rest of the tournament? Wales?
