Because you're purchasing a multi-year asset? Why would you pay £20-25m for someone now that you know is gonna be crocked for at least 3 months, most likely 6, and even then may take far longer to get up to previous levels of fitness/form? All the while having to pay their medical bills, etc; to me it makes no sense & I think a few people here have got a bit wrapped up in the whole Barkley transfer & are afraid to let him go.
I would certainly not be risking ANY money on him until earliest January, when we can probably pick him up for £10-15m and which gives us time to properly assess whether his injury problems have had any long term effect. Reportedly he wants to come and play under Poch; if that's the case there should be no problem in delaying the deal a bit in order to do so.

Plus we won't likely be able to assess anything with his injury as Everton likely won't play him. The only way to get a proper assessment is to buy him.
On what evidence do you base you claim that it will be more like six months? Why would you pay £20-25m for someone now that you know is gonna be crocked for at least 3 months, most likely 6, and even then may take far longer to get up to previous levels of fitness/form? It's a dangerous game waiting it out. By January you may as well argue we should just wait until he's free. Surely even if injured we're better off bringing him in to work with our medical and fitness staff rather than the Everton one where he's just picked up two quick subsequent injuries.I'm pretty sure Everton won't be making out his injuries are worse than what they actually are if they are keen to sell him. So can't see the need to buy him now just so we can assess his injuries.
If the reports are right and he is going to be out for at least three months then surely makes a lot more sense to wait till January to buy him. When with only six months left on his contract surely he will be cheaper than he is now.
.
True; lots and lots of hard members over Jenny McCarthy back in the day...What a barometer of how far we have come, I remember when members were getting hard over McCarthy on here.
