I do think Everton are doing a Levy hoping to push the price up by tempting another bidder in. However unless they buy him to stop him playing for someone else I can't see any top team buying him knowing he wants to come to us and knowing he is not the finished article ... when do the others (apart from Arsenal) buy projects?

Chelsea and other clubs have beaten us to players that were sold on our project before. What if Everton tell him they can't accept our weaker offer?

Some weak promises and an extra £50-100k a week would make any player think. Conte isn't exactly a bad manager either.

I don't think we can ever be overconfident in this scenario, although I do feel this is being led by Everton to try and get us to pay up.
Couldn't he say - OK then, I'm happy to wait?

Potentially but then it's who blinks first.

With Tottenham transfer history I'm not thinking it's a cert that's all.

Personally I think he'll come but I'm not putting my house on it.

Another unfounded rumour???

Ross has had his heart set on coming here for months. He knows he has defincies in his game, and after spending a lot of time with our England contingent he is convinced Poch is the man to sort them out. He is very good friends with a couple of them, and we were made aware a long time ago of his interest. I have probably been saying more than I should on this one, and this doesn't mean he will 100% end up here, but as of last weekend his people believed he would.
I agree with this but the problem is as you have said Trix is if Chelsea do a Willian/Batwhatever his name is and offer him double at the last minute

If Everton want 30m and we want to pay 25m. Why not just pay the extra 5m to secure his signature, 5m is nothing to a prem team. Seem stupid to miss out for a small sum.

I doubt that anything happens until he recovers from his injury, Levy will see no point in paying his wages while he is injured.
Absolutely this. Although this means in theory we could be left opened to a Willianing, I think it's likely he'll end up here.

It's an extra £20k per week for someone we already own over the course of a 5 year contract...

I can't stress enough how important Barkley transfer will be.

For starters, It would defintely weaken Everton in short & long run. If Poch can get the best out of him, Poch crushes Koeman on any remaining argument that he is the best coach in PL. People dont see Everton as big force yet, but lets be honest, Everton are moving towards from position of weakness to strength under new regime. Any way we could dent their momentum is good in long run.

Next, Barkley absolutely solves our current problem; Barkley incidentally has played his best football in last 2 years from Right wing, cutting in, exactly like Eriksen. He adds depth to the squad & provides quality and can cover 3 players - Eriksen, Dembele & Dele. How refreshing is going to see Barkley coming off bench (or starting) than Sissoko...

Best case scenario - He improves further & shows his class and competes/takes over likes of Dembele or Eriksen. (likely Dembele)

Worst Case scenrio - He has a average couple of years. We decide to sell him when he is 26 and we would still fetch him same or more money from a PL club.

Win Win for Barkley & us.

Of course it's possible, although from what I have heard regarding this it's more likely just the press trying to fill column inches based on nothing more than Koemanns comments.

It has been said in previous windows by itks that every few million saved on signing players in instances like this allows us to use that on another signing.

5m is still alot of money when you think about it, but if we can save a couple mil here and a few there, then over the course of a few transfers that'll allow us to have the money to get an eriksen for example .

Remember, we don't have a bottomless pit of money like some teams do but what we do have is a very astute chairman when it comes to the financial side of our business.

i think its safe to assume that poch wants him...i would figure Levy will find a way thro to get him even thou everton know we want him...which they'll deduce well be willing to stump up enough 40-50m to get him or likely go to a rival

Stuck 15 quid on this transfer to us happening. If it doesn't, I'm billing A&C

Seems Poch has different plans for Barkley's current role if he joins....maybe that's how Spurs have put the proposal to him and the reason why he'll join us....?...just a thought.

See, this is what we need. We need cover in CM and I wondered if Poch planned to use Barkley there. If that's the plan then this is great news. He definitely has the potential to be Dembele's understudy, the question is whether he will lose his ego a bit and be the humble but awesome team player Dembele is.

Interesting that we could possibly looking at him as speculated to play deeper as a long-term sucessor to Dembele.

But we do have Oakley-Boothe and Onomah plus Winks already in there so wouldn't want to block our own youth players.

I know it's a difficult balance as we're on verge of title-winning team but at same time just seems kind of a waste to be developing talented players and then bringing in a relatively young player of 23 who could block their path?

Winks should be getting game time next season when Dembele is not available so then bench spot would be taken by Onomah or Oakley-Boothe?

Barkley can't tackle and loses possession to easily. No way can he be a holding midfielder. His best attributes are more suited to a attacking midfielder

with winks, demeble, wanyama and dier in my view there is no chance he is bought to play there
