Another Injury prone defender?! Similar to Gallas I think when he joined but I thing Rio's best days have gone

Daws out, Rio in would be an upgrade. That's about it. Verts and Vlad I'm hoping will stay and be a lot better this year. If Younes does go/retire then we'll need cover.

I'd sign him on a one year contract to replace Daws or just to add some grit, leadership and passion in our squad.

Agent trying to get 'Arry to panic and sign him up. In his prime he was great (although I never liked him as a person and that Punked TV programme he did was dire) and a couple of years ago would've been a great signing.

Has got lots of experience but would rather keep Daws

Can see the sense of an experienced head at the back to help our younger players but otherwise he is hardly the future

I wouldn't mind him- if he understands that he won't be first choice, having an experienced leader like him can be no bad thing, surely?

Would much prefer Lescott.

For me this is spot on. If we are looking to pick up a free CB for experience then we should be going all out for Lescott this summer. At 31 Lescott is a real option as CB for the next 24 months. At 35 Rio just won't be more than a sub. Not that i think the Rio story has any legs - no coach + Levy = no chance IMO

I can see why from a leadership and expirience point of view, but playing wise Rio is about as Ill suited to Pochettinos system as you can get. Would worry me if he came.

Poch has a big enough job on his plate, why would we want to handicap him like this?

Ferdinand would have been a good signing for us - 15 years ago.

I'd take Ledley back in a wheelchair over Ferdinand now with his zimmer.

Also, if we want an English defender that is physically strong but has difficulties turning, either stick with Michael Dawson or bring back Caulker. They all offer similar things. Dawson a bit more steady at this point (hardly) and Caulker still young but has his issues.
