i think its more important to keep him at the club in some coaching role / ambassador role to reward him for his years of service. the number is irrelavant to be fair

Has been my favourite player for the last 10 years, a special servant to the club and so yes, retire the number.

Would Chelsea do it? Is he baresi? Would he have left without the injuries?

Fuck off! I don't give a fuck about what other clubs do for a start

#26 is Ledley King. Always will be

Thanks ledders

As previously stated, it's not a number 9 shirt, it's a 26. A 26 that is special to Ledley and Spurs fans alone. I think it would be a great thing to do and a very emotional tribute to Ledley for his commitment through adverse years at the club.
Nobody is going to miss the 26 shirt, and I think timed with us putting him 'out to graze' in playing terms it will be a great way of showing him how much the club and fans love him.

I hate it when clubs retire shirt numbers, it means that the player was bigger than the club. If you ask youngsters now about Gilzean, Greaves, White, Blanchflower at el do they appreciate how good they were, no because they never saw them play and so if their shirts had been retired then it would be irrelevant now.
As for loyalty, do you really think that if hadn't had such poor knees he would have stayed with us ? I for one am not convinced.

I'm not actually in favour of retiring the number, not that I'm really against it either, but it doesn't show the player was bigger than the club. It shows how much the player's efforts have been appreciated by the club and utimately the fans. Or out of respect due to death etc. It's not only multiple winning players have their numbers retired either.

Ledley might not even want it to happen anyway and I doubt this is even the smallest consideration anyone at the club or Ledley. So it's a bit of a moot point right now.

I agree with Omar, retiring the number isn't justified.

You think that if he never had his injury problems he would have stayed at the club, yeah right.

The players aformentioned above have all won over 10 trophies each for their clubs, which include multiple league titles and European cups. Arsenal didn't retire TH14 and he is a genuine legend. As someone else mentioned above, King was our only good player for a long time but that doesn't mean he should have his number retired - if it was, it would make us look like a joke club and all the bigger clubs we're trying to catch/emulate would be laughing at us.

You think ****sea are going to retire Drogba's number?!?

Load of rubbish, it would make us look like we had a soul & ledley was a massive part of that..

We nurtured him, produced a world class player in him...to question wether the boy would have left is absolutely idiotic..u dont know the man ffs..

He has been our best player for years, hes the only remotely world class player weve ever produced & bar injuries would have been the stand out defender of hos generation & imo the best cb in the world....

No 26 should be retired because he is a living legend...even when we had nothing we still had ledley...& nobody could argue!!

Retire 26

I'd retire it for one season.

Not a big fan of permanently retiring numbers though.

Look at those nobs at West Ham who suddenly decided to retire their no.6 - daft decision.

Bobby Moore was great but I'd want to give another defender the honour of wearing it, not leave a first 11 shirt vacant.

A one season retirement is a tribute and then you move on and hopefully get another legend at some point.

P.S. It's not even been confirmed whether he will be retiring yet!!!

A good idea, it is not a number that is of massive significance other than it is kings. So I say yes it should be

one would have to consider if he never got injured would he had stayed with Spurs?

We all know he is world class and realistically could we keep a world class player for that many years of underachievement.
just playing devil's advocate here....

If he never got injured this if he never got injured that.

If my auntie had a cock and bollocks she'd be my ankle now shut the fuck up with this nonsensical rubbish.

For me, you either retire it or give it to Caulker.

I hate this questioning of whether he'd have stayed if fit. Before injuries, when Cheksea came into money and were strongly linked, he resigned without any fuss for five years. Why does nobody remember that. This was around the time that he showed everybody how class he was in the euro2004 opener.

Fact is, we'd have been more successful if he'd stayed fit anyway so he'd have has less reason to leave!

Indeed. It was around that time his knee started playing up. I don't even care why he stayed. He stayed, has been the most talented player I've seen with my own eyes and is a Spurs man, from pup to glue factory.

I wub him sooo vewy much.

Wouldn't give the no.26 to Caulker (unless he specifically asks for it).

Caulker for me would be no. 15 if he's not out on loan next season.

It would have been 5 but if Verts does sign him and Kaboul will probably be occupying 4 and 5 (not sure which way round though lol).

I always wanted King to take the no.6 but he did seem to be fond of 26.

Indeed. You are right. I remember it. He was linked briefly to a few clubs for more money than we all reckon we should have got for Campbell. I recall figures from £22 - 25 million from three of the SKY 4 being mentioned in the papers. This was before his knee injury was known about and Tottenham were finishing between 14th and 9th every season.

I also recall an amazing centre half performance in that game against France, let down only by that 'I only play well for Liverpool, except when I pass the ball back to Thierry Henry, one on one with the keeper' twat Gerrard.

I would retire the shirt for a period.
