Redknapp was on TalkSPORT this morning and when asked by Ronnie Irani about Spurs' stuttering form of late, he likened it to the old joke about George Best who is in a bar with two blondes and a bottle of the finest champagne. "Where did it all go wrong George?" somebody asked him.

“I think people forget where Tottenham should be at times. They’ve got two Carling Cup wins since 1991, and the average finishing position – up until about four or five years ago - is probably about 10th. You can get carried away with where you should be and who you are really.” Spoken like a winner well said HR you gobshite

Of course, we should all be grateful for not being 10th. Forget all the money the club has spent in recent years, forget the constant increase in ticket and merchandise prices in order to increase the clubs bank balance, forget the the fact that we've blown a huge points advantage over our fierce rivals, in large part down to the manager.

At least we aren't 10th.

I was going to say that there wasn't a lot wrong with any of what he's saying, but then that last paragraph really irked me. 10 years ago, yes we deserved to be where we were. But now? With this team and being 3rd for so long? Very, very defeatist and not productive at all.

Harry in january:
"I've been saying all along it's not impossible to win the title, but it's very, very hard. But we're in there, we've got a chance."

Now:
“I think people forget where Tottenham should be at times. They’ve got two Carling Cup wins since 1991, and the average finishing position – up until about four or five years ago - is probably about 10th. You can get carried away with where you should be and who you are really.”

This is what really irritates me about Harry: downplaying the history and potential of Spurs to make it seem like he's over-achieving. As he trots off to the England job, he'll be saying how well he did in his last season by getting to an FA Cup SF and finishing 5th.

"I even got Champions League one season, something they'd never had! That was their highest finish for nearly 20 years! When I went there they had 2 points from 8 games and the squad was the biggest mess you'd ever seen. Absolutely all over the place. We got 7th that season and I've left them with the strongest squad in the league, outside of Manchester."

He just gets too defensive really. Its a new situation for him, being at the pointy end of the stick, and he does not seem to handle it very well.

Somehow I knew Harry would bring this argument up which is the same old 'we were shit before I took over so we should just be grateful of rubbing shoulders with the big boys' rhetoric.
How far back do we have to look to justify this point!

Harry has always been a bit of a dick, loves the sound of his own voice and contradicts himself all the time apart from lying through his teeth. Unless it was mind games you wouldn't catch SAF or Wenger telling the opposition who's in or out three days before a game, just give Chelsea the f***** team sheet now Harry so they can practice tactics and select their team accordingly.

I would have expected that sort of tripe to come out of the mouth of some irksome little shit like Jack Wilshire. Not our own manager.

Harry has always been more concerned with how he is perceived than anything else. Nothing to see here.

He doesn't do himself any favours does he :(

He clearly wants to set his achievements in a wider context, presumably because he thinks that by doing so they'll appear all the greater, but it has the opposite effect, no one buys it, certainly not the majority of the supporters of the club he works for, even his fans get fed up with these sorts of comments. So who are they aimed at, and to what purpose? The media? I'm not sure they buy it. Fans of other clubs... come off it! The FA...? Maybe he's trying to convince himself? Whatever the truth, it's crass.

Sloth, I don't think they're actually aimed at anyone in particular; just an instinctive defensive reaction that is entirely in keeping with his character.

To be expected in all honesty.

I cant imagine Fergie for example coming out and telling Man Utd fans that they should be greatful for what he has done, I dont see what Harry hopes to achieve by doing this.Isnt doing himself any favours.

I would quite like to see Daniel Levy come out and 'distance himself' from those particular remarks, because they are wholly inappropriate for a spokesperson of the club at this moment in time (this point in our current resurgence). HR has done a fantastic job overall, but if this is his public attitude to the job and the club, he can start to pack his bags ...

We finished 5th, although were in 4th until the half way point of the last game of the 2005-6 season, we never dropped out of the top 6 that season, from day 1 to day 38. We were in Europe. We passed well. We were ahead of Arsenal until the second half of the last game of the season.

The next season we got to quarter finals in 2 or 3 cups and finished 5th with a strong 'end of season'. We scored goals for fun. We were again in Europe.

The next season we did poorly, but won the Carling Cup against Mourinho's Chelsea. We were in Europe again.

Then... Redknapp came. He rescued a ruined season. Then the next year he threatened the F.A Cup and got 4th. Indeed, just before half time in the final game of that season, we could have finished 3rd ahead of Arsenal. Liverpool dropped out of the SKY big 4 and we saw off Manchester City's petrodollars, beating Arsenal and Chelsea towards the end of the season. We finished the season well.

The next season, we excited people in the Champion's League. We beat both Milans and it took a red card at Real Madrid to end our European adventure. We finished 5th, but could have finished 4th again. We understood, it was a learning curve. We were in Europa League.

In this time we overcame hoodoos at Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal.

Then this season, you played a weakened/youth side in Europa. You did the same in our single game of the Carling Cup, but you did so well in the league. You won a string of games that is unrivalled in our premiership history. You had us within touching distance of 2nd. We were about break our local rival and help ruin a rival for top 4, which would have done them a major mischief...

Don't tell us what we deserve, we know what we deserve and what we can do and what our history is AND what the club wants to do.

Now go out and win that sodding cup and bring us 4th or by some miracle 3rd, or so help me God, I'll drag you to the F.A. and force them to take you on for England.

RANT over!
