To be honest I want us to focus on finishing 3rd or above next season if we keep Bale. I don't want us to disregard the Europa, but I do hope we integrate more young players in it and give our first team a rest to make PL our priority. I think our younger players would benefit from the experience and are the future, and mixed with some of the senior players in key positions we should still advance.

I agree with the sentiment but the Europa League can do one, if I'm honest. I loved the fact that we went for it this year but I think we need to reappraise and go all out for the league. I genuinely think that we should aim for top 3 next season. Chelsea are looking very strong, Man U will be in transition, City's new manager will take time to bed in, Arsenal will improve slightly BUT they all have Champions League to distract them.

We should flat out focus on the league and see what we can achieve with the odds tipped in our favour. We need to aim high to keep the team and Bale motivated.

Love the idea, but Chelsea and city must be bankers for top three. Us, man U, arse and one or two others will be fighting it out for third and fourth.

We have been excellent this year.we could have easily dropped points at Man home and away, Southampton, Sunderland, Liverpool and Everton at home and also Chelsea, West Brom, West Ham etc away. I think 72 points is a fair total of where we are at right now. So many goals in the last 10 mins have saved us. Next year we need to be looking at at least 78 points.

I want nothing to do with the Europa next season...waste of time...complete distraction and we do not have the depth of quality in the squad to take it serious.

Its a nothing trophy....I wish we were not even in it tbh.

I'm not so sure. It's still a trophy. Just look how the ones in blue went mental and celebrated like they were title winners.

To me, there are no nothing trophies. Would fucking love some silverware.

I think coming into this game deep down we all knew we'd shot ourselves in the foot. Five dropped points against bloody Wigan is what done us....
I'm actually quite excited to see just what avb does over the next couple of months!

This....the teams above us all took 6 points from Wigan,we should not be dropping any points to relegated teams.
AVB is still cutting his teeth in the prem, its bloody exciting to think what we could be like in a couple of years.

Surely though breaking your record points haul and setting a 25 year best for away wins is still progress, especially in a season that many had written off as a transitional one.

Considering we've had to adapt to a new manager (and the press giving him grief for not being 'Arry for the first few months), sold two of our best players, had our club captain and best defender for generations retire, had our best centre back injured for all but one game of the season and had our most important central midfielder injured for half the season, to set a new record PL points total for us is a fantastic achievement and one that shouldn't be overlooked. It just sucks that four other teams got more.

It is better to fail aiming high than to succeed aiming low. And we at Tottenham Hotspur have set our sights so very high, that even if failure there is an echo of glory. So said the great man. One hundred million pounds difference in income. One point difference in the league.

So you hope that we qualify for the CL and end up in a group like Shitty did this season and go out in the group stage? I do think there are probably reasons why AVB didn't use more fringe and youth players in the EL. But we'll probably play some shit teams in it next season, and I'd like to see more youth involved in games such as Maribor or Panathinaikos at home where we can rotate and still expect to win. We can still take it seriously and challenge for a top four place if we strengthen in the right places.

This.

But AVB will persist in playing full strength in away trips to Moscow etc

I must have missed all those away games in Russia we had this season. Also must have missed the memo where Russian teams were not allowed in the Champions Leauge.

That was a thereotical example used to demonstrate just a generic long haul away trip.

Also I don't get the point about Russian club and CL sorry missed that one

One thing that annoys me about the EL detractors is that they always imply that every game is away in Russia or some other far flung place, which kind of misses the point that we could still end up with a trip to Moscow or wherever in the CL. Whereas this season in the EL we had one trip to Athens and one to Slovenia, other than that the furthest we went was Rome.

Oh right I get you and I guess that makes my points somewhat redundant, so I agree with what you're saying.

For me, I just don't feel we will win it... Although we will start off pre-tournament favorites some undeserving team will drop in from CL and pip us. Before people say oh well that's defeatist attitude etc etc. I just feel with every year we put effort in and try and compete on 4 fronts, the quest for top 4 becomes less and less attainable.

Look at Arsenal's run of form to get top 4; they was massively helped by not being in Europe and having only one game a week.

I guess long story short, I would prefer us to give ourselves maximum opportunity to achieve top 4 next season and then tackle the problem of managing two games a season by adding real depth/quality. With AVB's determination to win the cup I don't see it though.

But look at Chelsea's run in, they had games coming out of their earholes but they still managed to win most of them. Admittedly they also have money coming out of every orifice, but they still had to play them.

I know though, it annoys me down to the bone that the CL failures get given a further little hand out. Even so, it's not been won by a CL failure team every season and I still think we'll have a great chance of winning it next season. At the very least a good run will help if we get CL the season after.

Yeah don't get me wrong, when it got to the knock out stages all the feelings of me wanting to bomb out of the competition evaporated.

I guess AVB has to find a balance between our approach and Liverpool's approach to the EL this season; a mixture of first teamers and youth.

With the addition of a few more quality players to our squad, it should be more than sufficient enough to compete on Europe and domestic front and not suffer from the fatigue we have this season.

I'd like to see us take that sort of approach in the group stage, bring the likes of Carroll, Townsend and a few others who are skirting around the first team in. If balanced with the right number of first team players we should still be able to qualify with ease but without needing to play Bale, Sandro, Vertonghen etc every game. Once it gets to the knock out stage I think the momentum and confidence gained from winning consistently is as big a factor as tiredness from playing more games.

put the next gen team and some young fringe players only in the europa next year fucking dont want the first team squad in it give them a rest compared to our rivals in the chumps league use this as an advantage and make them play league games only and later stages f.a cup at a push. We need At least 2 forwards of decent standard another central midfielder and with andros , sandro and kaboul to come back we should be strong. if we arent going to play rose then a left back also. record points or not coming 5th to them on the last day feels worse than last year.
