Winks & NDombele were brilliant before and after Serge reminded us what a clown he could be. Kane quality throughout as well and Lloris made amends in the second half.

That Southampton RB must have been relieved when Aurier saw red, Son was rinsing him every time before that.

Winks, NDombele & Kane 8
Eriksen 6
Everyone else 7

Haven’t seen game yet but I’ve been saying for a while to try Mossa at RB. He seems to have raw materials and may just stop us playing dreaded diamond. Thoughts?

I thought Kane was tremendous today. Aurier's rashness is mind boggling. I think when the midfield diamond went and we moved to a flat 4, Ndomble and Winks were much clearer with their positioning. Hope Poch sees that.

Really needed the 3pts today, winning with 10 men will do morale so much good.

Kane today reminded me of that Berbatov masterclass when Keane got sent off against Bolton.

Winks was absolutely brilliant.

I've voted Winks to even it up 27-all. :)

I'd just like to thank Blake Edwards for the script for today's match.

It all starts with a flawed diamond.
There's a devastating shot.
A man with a French accent does some stupid things.
The flawed diamond goes missing.
Another man with a French accent does a stupid thing.
There's a great attack scene with an oriental guy
And all the while the French guy's boss is going slightly insane as he sees the farce unfold.
Ultimately, though, it all ends well and there's a party. Yay.

As for Man of the Match, well, as in the original Pink Panther, let's have the smoothie English hero win out...

MOTM: Winks.
Take a bow nine, genius

Because of the red card, it's a game I would want to watch back again knowing how it panned out before making a detailed post with ratings. I was unbelievably nervous and expecting us to shit the bed at any moment and that clouded my judgement of everything we did from 30 minutes onwards, and the whole second half especially.

But despite my nervousness, I think we defended very deep at times but also did a good job, and Hugo never faced an absolute barrage of efforts, we held Southampton at arms length pretty well. Soton had 14 shots, 6 on target in total but only 5/3 in the second half. They seemed more dangerous before we went 2-1 up than they were after, aside from two very good Lloris saves. Soton came out guns blazing in the second half but only had one effort after 62 minutes, which is testament to how well we coped.

My gut instinct says Sissoko MOTM with Winks and Kane also very good and Hugo magnificent apart from the absolutely massive elephant in the room. His kicking is always a worry but dallying on the ball like that as well is just awful.

Lloris- horrible mistake first half, great saves second half.

Aurier- his own worst enemy.

Alderweireld- manful under pressure.

Vertonghen- manful under pressure.

Rose- committee, determined and effective.

Winks- great discipline, fight and took responsibility.

Sissoko- full of drive, focus and leadership.

Ndombele- skilful, far more involved, nice goal.

Eriksen- nice goal involvement, good off the ball, mixed results from his passing.

Son- awful start, looked clumsy, then became a livewire, good on both goals.

Kane- lovely goal, some great passing, crossing, dribbling and hold up play. Berbatov in the 4-1 v Bolton.

Lamela and Dier both positively impacted. Good in game management from Pochettino in tough circumstances.
Not on the same level as Berbatov against Bolton! That was one of the best performances by a striker playing for a team with 10. He was beyond amazing that day. Bolton were a very very good team at the time too.

Thought sissoko was fantastic today, winks was also very good. Lamela made a huge difference. Ndombele showed real flashes of what he is about. Skillful, uses the ball well, good runner with the ball and has an eye for a pass. For me we need a holding midfield player to get the best from him, none of winks, sissoko or ndombele can play that position and it is making us vulnerable through the middle. Personally I would be happy to see Dier (if he can get fully fit) sitting with 2 of winks/sissoko/ndombele just ahead.

Much needed win. We are going to have to struggle through this rough patch.

Thought Harry led the line really well. Winks was industrious. And Sissoko was solid. Ndombele showed flashes in the first half but we need him to do so much more.

For people saying Eriksen was just going through the motions apparently he ran over 11 kms today - way more than any other Spurs player. At least he's working hard if not as effectively as we'd like.

Best performance from Kane for a long time. He looked class. And yes, it was Berbatov-esque. Pleased with Eriksen after a series of stinkers. Blunder apart, Lloris was excellent - let's not forget that.

Lloris's brain fart was always an accident waiting to happen, but I glad it happened in a game we won. Hopefully he will learn from this (unlike Serge Aurier) and cut out this pissing about.

He obviously didn't learn from doing it in a World Cup final, so out of the two, I'd give Aurier a bit more slack.

As a keeper in my youth, I want to talk about Lloris. Yeah he made a complete howler, but he also made a number of top saves. If he doesn’t make the error and one of those other shots score instead people would be talking about him as MOTM.

More broadly, I’ve noticed it takes forever for opinions of a keeper to change. If a striker has a bad season, he only has to score half a dozen goals near the start of the next year and everyone says he’s back. Lloris was below his best in 2018 but has been one of our best players throughout 2019 and the broader press haven’t noticed. Meanwhile De Gea is still feted despite being garbage in the second half of last year.

Ndombele ...hes still adjusting and hes gonna be massive!

Agreed. A shame he missed a couple of games which delayed his integration but he showed much more in attack against Leicester and again today. Still got Lo Celso to come too

After a nervous start I thought we were actually starting to play ourselves back into some confidence before Serge got sent off. I was impressed with how we went about the game and managed it as a whole. Will do the us the world of good.

You can see ndombele is still adjusting to the pace of the game. A few times he received the ball and thought he had more time than he did and lost it but he definitely has the talent to adjust. One of the best ever midfielders I have seen at the club - Modric also took time to adjust at first.
Hard to say what kind of midfield player he is. Certainly not a holding one and he is going to do more damage in the final third.
