1st Half

This so far our best performance for some time where everyone has contributed. Dele a bit rusty but has definitely enabled us to up our game. Kane gets his 200th career goal and Eriksen looking sharper than I have seen him for some time. KWP has been steady but does not look out of place and has handled both Redman and Bertran well.

Harry good goal but didn't take other chances.

Moura good energy but didn't look composed.

Eriksen on a streak of shit performances.

Good to have Alli back but he needed subbing at 60 minutes.

Sissoko classy first half, felt lost in the second.

Dier cleaned up well but doesn't feel like a midfielder to me.

Rose performance ruined by letting that ball run in the box - schoolboy defending.

Sanchez good in bits, bad in bits.

Verts decent.

KWP did well.

Hugo no chance for either goal.

This loss is Poch's loss in my opinion. Teams are quickly figuring out if they press us and don't allow us to play the way we like to play, we cave. Need a plan B. It was coming alllllll second half and he subs off Moura when Dele was on his deathbed? His inability to make changes ahead of necessity continues to be his downfall.

I have no will to rate anyone to be honest. @Hazelton sums up my feelings in the match thread

"This season has really challenged my love of football, not going to lie. The best Spurs team in my lifetime and we've rested on our laurels, despite achieving nothing. What a waste."

Need two threads here first half ratings and second half ratings (that one would be fun :cautious:)

I'm just gonna rate on second half as that cost us the game.

Lloris, couldn't get near free kick or fortunate mishit shot.
KWP, error prone, but when you're looking up to Trippier and Aurier that's a given (also one game every four months is not great prep)
Rose, diving, moaning, starting fights, i can forgive all those, but the fuckwittery at the end is just boggling my mind...
Jan. errors
Sanchez see above but multiply be ten.
Sissoko, ok, had to do the running of Dier and Dele.
Dier, stood around the centre
Dele, slowed things down and stood around.
Eriksen, nothing noteworty hit lots of first men.
Kane, slow, still off the pace.
Moura, control, touch, decisions all bad.
Son, Meh.
Llorente, "

Ten minutes into the second half you could see that the changes had totally changed the game, shame Poch couldn't see (clearly doesn't like the high angle )

Dier: -10 for turning the formation to a three at the back because he can't run.

Poch: -10 for letting Dier do that.

Goodbye CL.

Lloris: 6 - Can’t remember him doing much other than claiming a few crosses, and picking the ball out of the net. Nothing he could have done IMO.

KWP: 5 - Struggled. Lack of pace, consistency. Always on the back foot. Harsh to judge him considering he just doesn’t play so not easy to build confidence and form, but not a great run-out.
Sanchez: 5 - Little to do in the first half, and just looked devoid of confidence next to KWP. Everything just a bit too slow.
Vertonghen: 5 - Even in the first half, he looked a little loose. A lot of stray passes. Just didn’t look comfortable in the second.
Rose: 4 - That dummy...

Dier/Sissoko: 5 - Both did what they could, but the lack of an incisive CM is killing us. When the defence is pressed there’s no one to pass it to to get us out and keep possession, so they smash it long and we lose it.

Lucas: 5 - Just isn’t offering anything, even when we’re on top.
Eriksen: 4 - Hey, at least we’ll get a decent price for him.
Dele: 7 - Such a bonus to have him back. Everyone looks better when he plays. Faded in the second half but he has time to work on his fitness now.
Kane: 6 - Scored (again) - thought he was good today myself. We’re kidding ourselves if we think he’s the problem.

Subs were all rubbish.

Dele my MOTM, but none really deserve it after that second half.

KWP let his man run off his shoulder for the first and then was caught on his heels and let Armstrong (!!!!) out pace him in the buildup to the FK. Should've been sent of too.

Rose dummied the ball in the box under pressure having absolutely no awareness of the situation.

Didn't think anyone else was particularly bad. Dele our best, and Lucas looked sharper. Sissoko lucky to not be sent off as well.

We need four fullbacks in the summer. I don't think I'm exaggerating either. I know this won't happen, but it's what we need.

Sick of the same shit. Every time we play against a 343 shape we're absolutely useless defensively. I don't know if it's stubbornness or incompetence, but it's inexcusable. We put our back four under huge pressure and make them look bad.

We had an easy first half where we should have been two or three up. This was because of some very good play by us, but Southampton's approach was bad. Any time teams don't press us and we have all day to play we look good. They change personal at half time, but kept the same formation. Soon as the second half started and they were putting closing us down I knew it was going to be trouble unless we got a goal on the break.. Five years and we struggle to play out from the back when being pressed. Then it was the Wolves game all over again. Under the kosh to easily solvable problems, needed a simple change in formation to fix it, and we make a like for like substitution that's never going to help us.

We played a diamond in both halves, but because we had so much of the ball in the first half we were able to drop Dier into a back three and play a 343 shape. Eriksen was able to drop deep and dictate the play because he had no one near him and occasionally join the front three. Sissoko did a good job of just staying out of the way. The front three had good movement. If only we kept that shape out of possession too it would have been so much better. Then for some reason early in the second we switched Alli and Eriksen's roles and neither were as good.

Lloris 6 - No chance for the goals.

KWP 4 - Made a couple of errors with the ball and some bad overall defending. Didn't offer anything going forward either.
Sanchez 6 - Good first. Not helped by the shape in the second.
Vertognhen 6 - Same
Rose 5 - The dummy for the goal in inexcusable, and he started to loose for lack of a better phrase in the last twenty minutes. Was good before that

Sissoko 5 - Lucky not to have been sent off. Didn't really offer much and when he tried to it usually didn't work out.
Dier 6 - Fine in the first half. Another who wasn't helped by the shape.
Eriksen 7 - Set up Kane with two great chances. Ran the game in the first half. Went out of the game when he was put out of position in the second half.

Alli 7 - Good until he was made to play deeper. Probably ran out of gas.

Lucas 5 - Was a nuisance, and got unlucky on a couple of occasions, but offers no end product and loses it too often.
Kane 6 - Good movement, bad finishing.

Poch needs to stop inviting the press. Why do the defenders have to bring the ball out every fcuking time. You do it all the time then everyone starts to press you higher. Go fcuking long, just please fcuking stop being so predictable.

Nobody deserves man of the match. (Well maybe Dele but I'm too mad to award anyone man of the match)

Daniel Levy & ENIC - 10 - blinding performance, financially backing the football operation of the club in a way that totally justifies us being the most expensive side to follow in world football, would have won it all now if it wasn't for those miserable, non-believing fans

Pochettino - 10 - blinding performance, identified when the tide of a game turned against us and made pro-active substitutions in a timely manner before the game got away from us, would have won it all now if it wasn't for those miserable, non-believing fans

Hugo Lloris - 10 - blinding performance, sublime distribution skills that always kept us out of danger when enacting the wise strategy of constantly playing the ball out from the back at all costs, would have won it all now if it wasn't for those miserable, non-believing fans

Kyle Walker-Peters - 10 - blinding performance, tracked his runners superbly and made crucial tackles that prevented goals (especially those scored from direct free-kicks), would have won it all now if it wasn't for those miserable, non-believing fans

Davinson Sanchez - 10 - blinding performance, sensibly played safety first all the time and never dilly-dallied with the ball in areas where losing it would result in an excellent goal-scoring chance for the opposition, would have won it all now if it wasn't for those miserable, non-believing fans

Jan Vertonghen - 10 - blinding performance, martialled his defence against splendidly against one of the league's most feared attacking partnerships in Shane Long and Stuart Armstrong, would have won it all now if it wasn't for those miserable, non-believing fans

Danny Rose - 10 - blinding performance, performed a dummy of such footballing vision that Lionel Messi would give happily back all his Ballon d'Ors just to witness it live in the flesh, would have won it all now if it wasn't for those miserable, non-believing fans

Eric Dier - 10 - blinding performance, bossed the midfield and prevented a lively Southampton side from having the run of the park in the second half, would have won it all now if it wasn't for those miserable, non-believing fans

Moussa Sissoko - 10 - blinding performance, usual blend of vision and inch-perfect passing on display as always but it was his awesome disciplinary instincts that shone most today, would have won it all now if it wasn't for those miserable, non-believing fans

Christian Eriksen - 10 - blinding performance, found moments of inspiration when we needed them and smartly tested the keeper with plentiful shots straight down his throat, would have won it all now if it wasn't for those miserable, non-believing fans

Dele Alli - 10 - blinding performance, always chose the right option on the counter-attack and cleverly holding the ball up rather than slipping Lucas in during the first half paid the expected divident of sowing confusion amongst the Saints' back line, would have won it all now if it wasn't for those miserable, non-believing fans

Lucas Moura - 10 - blinding performance, as effective as always and his mazy dribbles really opened up some useful spaces for whole nano-seconds before the cheating Saints defenders cannily lured him into continually over-running the ball directly into their paths, would have won it all now if it wasn't for those miserable, non-believing fans

Harry Kane - 10 - blinding performance, racked up those xG stats with some lovely shots that were unlucky not to go in as they were struck with a casual-ness that should at least be rewarded with Paulo Cool Points if not actual goals, would have won it all now if it wasn't for those miserable, non-believing fans

Tottenham Hotspur fans (match-attending and remote-based) - 0 - miserable, non-believers, totally the reason that we don't win anything any more

Southampton are currently a dreadful side.
But you can't think 1-0 is enough - you have to kill the game.
The mentality of the players was all wrong and that is down to MP again.
I gave MOTM to Dier as he was on his own - Sissoko did not turn up - and he actually fed the AMs quickly and accurately, which Winks doesn't. 6 out of 10.
KWP has been treated poorly by the club, and has lost his way. His only hope is lots of europa league games next season, which looks a real possibility after today.

What today shows is that we are missing an experienced leader in the middle of the park.

I thought it was Dier that we were really missing. A gritty, get stuck in leader.

Simple fact atm is we’re making too many mistakes at one end
And are really struggling with Eriksen arctic cold form and zero creativity.

Right this is what pisses me off Dele and Kane both guilty of lack of ruthlessness.. Kane tries to shoot first time and a misses chance from 8 yards when we were 0-1 surely when you have a slender lead you take more care and Dele on the break can slip in Kane but no decided to go for some glory of his own.. So in my view Dele does not get a 7 or Kane a 6 because when it mattered they screwed up... As a team we play like we create 20 clear chances a game which we don`t
