Noticed Vicario playing some long balls tonight. Maybe it was just because Richy was playing up top, but I thought it was nice to see some variations in the patters from the back
Hard to pick out any one player.
Sarr, Porro, Sonny, Deki...the list goes on.
Udogie had a few dodgy moments, as did Romero but overall, they all played really well.
Special mention to Gentle Ben who put in another solid performance and also to Skipp, who again had a decent cameo. (I know there are certain folk on here who will not agree with this).
Nice to see Richy get a couple and it's really hard to pick one outstanding player but I may actually lean towards Porro tonight.
May need to watch it again though, to make my mind up.
Sarr for me today. Love his energy, tackling, willingness to run with the ball and get forward from deep. Strong and powerful performance, supremely confident on the ball. Love him.
Went with Porro because his energy is infectious. He celebrated deflecting a pass out for a throw in during the second half, and that pass for Richy's second was beautiful, but could have been Son or Sarr or Deki. Just loved seeing the reaction after the last few disappointments.
Can’t pick one, four or five of them could have got mom quite easily.
Massive shout out to the boss though for the changes and tinkering to the starting XI, it looked so much better up top
Vicario: Solid, not really bothered. Love his composure and ability with his feet.
Porro: Excellent. Love watching him play. This system is made for him. Incredible running as well.
Romero: Very good, bar a couple of dumb challenges and a stupid card. Needs to be a bit smarter.
Davies: Excellent. Completely underrated what he has done filling in for VDV.
Udogie: Great going forward and getting his first goal. Still a bit sloppy at times.
Biss: Showed glimpses from the start of the season. Did well - only a couple of brain farts.
Sarr: So good to have him back. This game more than any other this season showed why he is the preferred starter to Hojbjerg.
Deki: Great in the number 10 and out wide left later on. His closing down and general engine is brilliant.
Son: MOM (just) for his assists, non-stop running and the general danger he posed back in his natural position. Got the goal he deserved too.
Richy: Great. Looked a completely different player today than at any point this year. Loved his energy all over the pitch and took his goals well.
Johnson: Very good. Deserved a goal for sure. He is going to get better and better... and his best position is def. down the right wing.
PEH - See Sarr comment above. I am now 100% convinced that the only position PEH can play in this team is back-up #6. He's a good player and a professional, don't get me wrong, I'm just not sure he is made for this system any more. Sarr brought so much to the game today - I have to admit we missed him more than I thought we would.
Skippy - Good little cameo again.
GLC - Don't recall anything of note.
Gil - Sloppy.
Donley - Couple of nice touches. NET really.
The speed at which we played the ball today was really noticeable. Made a huge difference. Yes, I get it, Newcastle didn't sit in a pikey low block with the bus parked in front of the goal like the other lot, but it was still nice to see.
Another thing I was really happy to see was a bit more width... Sonny as a winger (two footed) and Bren providing great width. IMO, with us having inverted fullbacks in this system, the wingers can't be inverted as well, it's too congested. I'm all for Deki staying at #10 until Maddison is fit. Today's line-up is what we should be going with until he and VDV are back.
For me Porro MOM, when he arrived I was worried about his defensive abilities but he is more solid these days and today (his best performance in a Spurs shirt) was top class, Beckham esque passing.
Kulu and Johnson also great, but no one below par. Sarr makes a massive difference covering the ground makes it seem like we have an extra man.
My only gripes (and I'm being super harsh here) is Skipp should have scored and that Romero tackle was a bit dodgy and there was no need for it although he did slip.
How unlucky was Johnson, once he hits his groove he'll be up there with Son in the top goalscorers.
Kulu, Richy, Son and Johnson is our front four until Maddison comes back. Everyone of our starters deserve at least an 8.
Sarr coming back into the team made me take a lot more notice about what it is he does so well for us. The main thing is his willingness to move the ball forward quickly and at a higher tempo than others. It makes a huge difference and was really noticeable today. Of course, his athleticism really helps us in the middle of the pitch, too.
Kulusevski as a 10 was a revelation today, he was really good and so much more effective than he is stuck out on the wing.
I voted Son MOTM but I have to say Porro has been absolutely superb these past few weeks. What a signing he has been for us.
