I could see Robbo making a start on Thursday, but I think that Cerny will be in net for both Thursday and Sunday...why would Juande recall Robbo for such a high-pressure situation--two very important matches in the span of just a few days when he could have brought him back in against Derby to get his confidence up and started him against Prague to get him ready for Sunday? It just doesn't seem to make sense, on the other hand, though I think that Cerny has been in good form, like DC_Boy I trust Juande--certainly he knows what he's doing if he does decide to recall Robbo.

["Dramatic" used three times in the first four paragraphs, think the Mail is trying to make the situation appear "dramatic"?--fantastic writing as usual for the Mail...]

Robbo suffers both from a lack of application and lack of confidence with one maybe even feeding the other.

For a season and half he was fantastic, one of the top three in the Premiership and that's the level I'd like him to reach again, whether he'll get the chance to with us (whether he's blown it already), I don't know.

In the year Leeds got relegated there were complaints from the Leeds supporters that he was over-weight, that he'd gone off the boil, that he wasn't the keeper he'd been previously. That was forgotten almost immediately after he joined us. He hit the ground running and showed the form which made him automatic as England No 1. There were no murmurings about his weight either, he was lean, agile and quick on his feet, if not quite the physical specimens that the likes of Cech and James are. At the time i thought nothing of it, or if I did I probably thought it was know-nothing Leeds supporters grumbling because we'd pinched there asset. Looking back though I wonder if they'd seen something of Robbo's character we'd yet to witness. i wonder if he came to us determined and with a point to prove and that's why there was a difference.

I don't know what went wrong but if I had to guess I'd say that Robbo has a comfort zone. I think he's one of those types (like many people I know, me included), who tries to get away with coasting. I think he kept himself in reasonable condition, but with his body type he didn't go the extra mile to ensure he was at his peak. Being out of condition, however slightly, will have contributed to the millimetres that can separate a finger-tip save from despairing flail, from the instant change of inertia to a slight backward stumble.

That's the first reason. The second is the mental aspect, I think he suffered from misfortune, some unlikely teams and players scored absolute screamers against him, the sorts of goals that many of them will look back at when their careers are over as the best or one of the best they ever scored. They seemed to save them all for him. Then there was also the misfortune of the bobble and of course the collective collapse of team confidence and morale suffered this year. All these things will have played on his mind. The pressure of Being England's No 1 too and even the shit his kids get at school after every apparent gaffe. And it's hard to deal with the mental side of things, hard to find a solution, you think you're over it and one piece of bad-luck brings back the sinking feeling all over again.

Lastly, i think the former, the lack of condition, the millimetres separating hero from zero, may have effected the latter, the strong mentality needed to be a top keeper.

In this context, if it's anywhere close to the reality (probably not, lol), he may have a chance. If he's serious about proving himself then Ramos strikes me as the kind of coach to give you a chance, he may be brutal in his selections but you know he's fair. There is also the fitness regime from which i hope Robbo's benefitted. Finally there's the anger. Anger's a great emotion for chasing away fear. If Robbo's angry enough it will with any luck overwhelm the nervey side of his game from which he suffered up until the dropping.

I think Cerny's a good keeper, a great number two and a better number one than Robbo of the last 18 months, but Robinson has it in him to be a far superior keeper. If it's true he's been given another chance I hope he does what any good keeper should and grabs it with both hands.

It's only the Daily Mail but...

Paul Robinson is in line for a dramatic recall to the Tottenham team for Thursday's UEFA Cup tie against Slavia Prague at White Hart Lane.

The goalkeeper, who began the season as England No.1, has not played since he was axed by Juande Ramos in January, but he will also face Chelsea in the Carling Cup Final on Sunday at Wembley if he comes through unscathed.

The dramatic development comes after Radek Cerny's mistake in Prague last week, which enabled Slavia to cut the arrears to 2-1, and Spurs head coach Ramos has doubts over whether the Czech keeper can cope under severe pressure. Ramos made the decision after video analysis of Cerny's recent performances and has decided to give Robinson, 28, a final chance in the Tottenham team.

Cerny was also at fault for one of Manchester United's goals in the FA Cup exit at Old Trafford and the manager is convinced Robinson will respond to his dramatic recall.
Ramos will also pick club captain Ledley King at Wembley, despite the England defender's ongoing knee problems that have restricted his appearances since his return to the team on Boxing Day.

Robinson was initially dropped ahead of Tottenham's Carling Cup semi-final first leg at Arsenal, and he demanded a transfer from White Hart Lane during talks with sporting director Damien Comolli and his agent the following day.

Spurs accepted his demand, but told the England keeper that he would not be allowed to leave until the summer. Ramos has targeted a number of replacement keepers — three are in Spain and the other is playing in Italy — but Robinson could still leave White Hart Lane with a Carling Cup winner's medal.

He has been brooding on the bench since he was dropped after a series of errors which contributed to him losing his place in the England squad.

Portsmouth keeper David James played in Fabio Capello's first match in charge against Switzerland at Wembley two weeks ago and the new England chief has made it clear he will only select players currently in their first teams.

Aston Villa's Scott Carson and Chris Kirkland of Wigan have also moved above Robinson in the pecking order, but the Spurs keeper still believes he has top-class credentials.

Those will be put to the test tomorrow night, when he makes his Spurs comeback, and he has the incentive of a place in the starting line-up for Sunday's showpiece if successful.

I hope its true!

Say what you like, I believe that Robbo would've kept the same clean sheets Cerny has kept.
It's our defence that's improved beyond recognition with Ramos' organisational skills and Woody in.

Well said! Have some rep!

I will accept whatever decision Juande and Gus make. After all, they are the ones who see both players play each day and have the best judgement on who has a) the better ability and b) the mental strength for these two big games.

If robbo has been putting the workrate in for training then it is only right Robbo gets a shot back in goals, after him being droped for mistakes during afew games, then Cerny deserves the same.

Cerny is a good Keeper but has been making alot of mistakes latley, not all resulting in goals, but afair few of them could have done on another day with some really bad mistakes as well which have lead to goals... hope Robbo gets his chance again, but who ever Ramos picks shall be the one he thinks can do the best job, so hsall be fine by me

yes it would be harsh on robbo, but i think its made up tabloid crap.

One mistake by cerny doesnt warrant being dropped, esp after robbo made about 25 much more costly errors this season.

come off it, costly errors??

I can see robbo getting a game in the uefa cup but then cerny coming back in for the final. Unless robbo shows complete command of his area and comes and colllects every ball into the box. Which is highly doubtful. What makes anyone think he has drastically changed this part of his game being on the sidelines for a few weeks?

Cerny does not deserve a place in the final, no one does!

Robbo's loyalty has been good to the club, but cerny has recently been playing in goal for the yids and has only made 1 mistake. robbo in this time would have made, more. Cerny is match fit, playing recently and well, surely he should play on Sunday. play Robbo on thurs to save Cerny...

Am sitting on the fence on this one:

Cerny's recent performance has been brilliant - very consistent. More clean sheets than Robbo's had for ages, great saves and only 1 cock up!

Robbo's lost confidence, had numerous cock ups, very few clean sheets, hasn't had a game since Janurary, but on form can be outstanding!

I'm worried that just because Robbo may get the place doesn't guarantee he'll put on a top performance. Decisions, decisions, decisions!!!!!

Robbo has had 7 clean sheets this season, to Cernys 4

Had a quick check on official website so please forgive any slight errors! This season (including pre-season friendlies)

Robbo: 33 games - 7 clean sheets (21% clean sheets)
Cerny: 10 games - 5 clean sheets (50% clean sheets)

Can we merge them to make a great keeper? Robbos shot stopping but Cerny's ability to catch the ball and dominate the area during set pieces.

so they both get a clean sheet once in every 4 games. God thats crap

Seriously we probably need 2 new keepers at least in the summer. Assuming one of cerny/robbo stay, we will get rid of the other one and make alnwick's loan move permanent (thats what he wants!?!?!? no ambition obviously)

The Scout on FTL is apparently saying that Robbo will start tonight and he is 100% certain of it.

Robbo 100% in...Cerny out..lots of speculation but this is 100%..trust me on this one..
Hopefully robbo will be inspired and not bottle it..heres hoping..

Then he clarifies he means thurs vs prague....

it seems silly not to let cerny make up for his mistake against his old club? Whoever keeps has a good chance to get a clean sheet, cerny could do with that boost b4 wembley after his mistake
