This is an interetsing point that I had not really considered.

Maybe there's a whiff of this behind getting rid of Dawson.

Flogging Daws never made sense to me but when you realise he is our captain, one of our longest serving players and I imagine well liked within the dressing room it starts to make more sense.

Smart move by AVB but he better get the quality in he needs to replace or could prove fatal.

But.....I really don't think he is made for this formation. He's a defensively liability (no more or less than lennon and Bale I add) , and you can't afford that.

Very sad day , I really hope Levy and AVB know what they are doing but I doubt it.

On the plus side he is going to a team that adores him and where the fans love him, I wish that was use but reading this thread and the others about Van Der Vaart a lot of Tottenham fans seen him as a luxury player , shame as he special.

Feel the same way about Rafa leaving as I did Ginola and Sheringham.

I just hate the idea that we've got a coach who is so wedded to one formation that he'll sacrifice our best players to make it work. Far better to choose a formation that will fit the players and then improve on what's there. As it is at the moment we're having to purchase half a team rather than just buy in 2 or 3 key positions.

Although it's more than what we paid for him I feel that it's way too low for a player who, on his day, can produce world class stuff. And lets face it, with regular football he's a much better player now than when he was sold to us.

Gutted. One of my favourite players ever (and was before he signed). Was over joyed when he came and now I just feel deflated. Two years just wasn't enough (esp when he did three with hamburg and is now going back - It's not fair they've had more Rafa time). Still annoyed that he didn't start against Newcastle.

Hopefully he will fail his medical.
