This thread should be moved to general football. we are not going to be anywhere near top 5 . In fact we could find ourselves in the bottom half of the table come the end of the weekend

Respect for calling this before tonight's game as ,if we win, the forum will be going full blast that we are heading for top 4( not 5). I think that , on balance, we are far more likely to be in a race with Arsenal, Shef Utd, and possibly Everton and Palace for Europa league. Points, and goal difference, in the bag are very important come this stage of the season where several teams are chasing one or two places.

Yeah so they didn't bottle it, you cannot bottle something you don't have an interest in obtaining. They rested players for the league matches to focus on the EL, now if they didn't win the EL then they would have bottled that.

Again - easy to say with hindsight when they've lifted the trophy. There's no way any club goes into the final month of the season neck and neck in the race for the top four, including fixtures against their rivals for that top four place, and "doesn't have an interest" in obtaining it.

Okay whatever you want to believe that fits your narrative mate.

It's about grinding out wins for everyone bar United who are flying. Everyone else above us will drop points. Keep winning and see what happens. Kane, Son and Stevie are all match winners and teams should be scared of us again, especially as we *seem* to be more solid at the back finally.

COYS.

After watching Bournemouth today...fighting for their lives wouldn't be the terminology I would be using. They are all over the shop.

If they want to stay up I think the only way is to sack the manager and get somebody in for the last few games. They need a change. If Howe continues on until the end of the season they'll go down. 100%.

Leicester are finished. They have to come to our place, Arsenal (who are on form) and Bournemouth (who are fighting for their lives). They also have United at home. That's four losses.

So on the same thought pattern we must be finished then, as we have to play in your words an on form Arsenal and a Bournemouth who are fighting for their lives also.
Of course we are not, and Leicester less so as they are 10 points ahead of us.

It is boring but it is one game at a time time again. How well we rotate is key though. Aurier cant start all these games for example. Once he tires his costly mistakes come out. Not having another right back may well cost us. We should of recalled KWP.

Do people agree that realistically we're going to need to win every remaining game to have a chance of qualifying for the Champions League?

That would mean we'd need to go on a seven match winning run from here, eight matches if you include West Ham. Can you guess how many Tottenham sides have been on eight match winning runs since 1961?

One. Just one. The 2016/17 side. Which was a lot better than the current team.

I just don't see this happening.

Why ?
He wouldn't have been allowed to play for us

Wolves have just lost 6 games all season, 2nd only after Liverpool. Their losses have been to us (1), Liverpool (2) and 3 other top half team. I cant see them losing a game. Only hope is, they get some key injuries or fatigue and drop some points through draws.

I cant see it - given their season now has a definitive purpose of reaching top4 and are team on a mission.
That's an absolutely outstanding record for a team that started their season late July in the early stages of Europa league whilst working with a relatively small squad.

Chelsea have had a BRILLIANT season Under Lampard !
Spurs are piss poor having sacked Poch and brining in loser Jose !

Reality :
Table says, Chelsea are 9 points ahead of Spurs with a game in hand for Spurs...
Chelsea have only scored 7 more goals than Spurs...
Chelsea have conceded 3 more goals than Spurs...

So Chelsea have a poorer defense & ok-ish attack. Yet, narrative is so different.

Yes, Chelsea are going to get Werner, Ziyech - may be Chillwell, Havertz...but lets be honest - they have a shite GK and a ageing backline. Key contributions have come from likes of Giroud, Willian, Azpiliqueta...I dont see how they will be playing so much better next season.

If we keep our core squad, add in couple of players and help Kane with a no9, under a fresh Jose season -we should defend far better and play more solid football than this season.
We need to remember it's been Lampard's first season in the PL and restricted from making signings. He's promoted youth and been getting some good individual performances from players, however results haven't been to consistent against lower placed teams. They did the double over us also.

Whilst we were in a CL final a year ago with a squad that should have won the league in previous years. We spent a fair amount in the summer with only 1 of those signings amounting to anything so far (GLC) and our record signing reported to be in a huff. We have had a piss poor season but the signs are Jose is making some small changes and we need to give him time.

We've had two managers and been without 2 strikers for months yet the narrative doesn't come anywhere near to suggesting that. But It's because of the fact that Lampard is young, English and promoting youth and he plays attacking (naive) football so he'll always get a free pass from the media.

Without 2 strikers for months ?
Son missed 3 league games through injury, that is all

But point is, we had no striker - Son being a Striker or Lucas being a striker has not worked this season. And we didnt replace Llorente.
The 2+ month out injuries are long for us - Kane , Sissoko, Lloris, Davies , Lo Celso, Lamela. Son & Bergwijn got injured and missed games as well. Ndombele was unfit.

I was worried about Chelsea signing Ziyech and Werner then I thought about it, their front 3 would be Pulisic - Werner - Ziyech.

Then I compared it to our front 3 of Son - Kane - Bergwijn and realised we have the stronger front 3 and was just getting nervous about the fact they were making signings but we don’t need to make signings like those with the front 3 we already have.

The thing about Wolves that is so beautiful, is the BALANCE of the team. You don't need huge money signings constantly and star players in every position. They have the right players in the right positions, super solid, nice technical balance and pace. Plus they don't have a free give away in their team like we do with Dele. I guarantee they wouldn't be doing as well with him in their team.

If we don't sign a DM this window we are the thickest team. Our CM is so unbalanced, our full backs are mid table level and we have no back up striker.
