I think we are in the race actually. Win the next 12 matches and we’ll have 50 points over the 24 first matches of the season or more than 2 ppg. That’s enough for top 4.

Good summary, well researched. I feel there probably is a weakness in your argument but I'm unable to spot it.
Well, your hesitancy, and I do agree that some caution might be prudent so you are right in that, is probably due to Liverpool being one of the next 12 opponents. But that's mid January and we'll have sold Eriksen ( we all know that selling players is what sparks an upturn) and we'll have bought players too. Levy will strike the deals in December and activate them officially already 1st of January, and they'll hit the ground running and vs. Liverpool we'll field 4-5 new faces and no fullback that we don't really like the look of.

That's good to hear as I have tickets for that match. Looking forward to it already....

Yeah i thought so, I got sent it by WhatsApp from a Liverpool fan mate, I tried to find it online but couldn't so just posted it on twitter so I could share here, it's so not funny if you're a Spurs fan, but so fucking funny.
Exactly the same thing happened to me, from a Liverpool fan mate.

Teams with least points after 12 rounds that have reached Top4

1993-1994 Newcastle 16 3rd
2014-2015 Arsenal 17 3rd
1998-1999 Leeds 17 4th
2003-2004 Liverpool 17 4th
2006-2007 Liverpool 17 3rd

So getting there this season would need a bit of miracle and seeing how we've been playing for ages it won't happen. So what we are looking at for last 26 rounds? Lacklustre performances and waiting for summer. Just jogging around best part of season won't bode well for CL and FA either.

11 points is a lot but I reckon we can get close.

All depends how we start under him though.

Lets get a few wins under our belt and have a look. United came out of nowhere last season until they fell off a cliff.

71 points was enough for top 4 last season but that was quite a low target. The previous two seasons were 75 and 76. ,

For us to make 71 from here we need to average 2.19 points per match - 83 points over a course of a full season.

Sadly it's just not going to happen.

It does suggest that the main motivator for sacking Poch now was Maureen's availability, rather than any real hope that the PL season could be salvaged (by squeaking Top 4 - I doubt qualifying for Europa is much of a factor here)

Bit premature. Ask me after the Burnley game. We will know a lot more then I reckon.

Yeah I agree. 71 is at the low end and would mean Leicester/Chelsea falling to below 1.7 points or below over the remainder of the season - average 65 points across a season. Man City have to do a little more -1.75, average 67 across a season, but you would expect them to make that easily. Mourinho will be looking at the cups this season definitely.

I think the good thing about the Christmas period is you can swing it in such a short amount of time, I wouldn't be surprised to see us between 4-7 points behind.

Unlikely unless Chelsea and Leicester both have a stinking run, Arsenal and United carry on the way they are and we somehow go on an unbelievable run.

I think it will take time for our results to start turning around, I think we will carry on with the odd draw here and there, I don't think we will suddenly start winning every game.

Going to be a tough ask to get top 6 but that is what we need to be looking at, rather than top 4, I just think it is a couple games too late, too many slip ups already this season.
