Placing does not matter much right now, to be honest. There cant be European football next season anyway. It just is not prudent.

Doubt the money men at uefa with their £2 billion in cash reserves waiting to be added to will concur!

So football can come back in June, but when teams start training normally again?

Whilst they have to comply with SD you can't train normally or is there going to be a special dispensation for football to allow them to train as they would do for a new season?

I vehemently disagree with playing football behind closed doors. However if you isolate all players for a week as in Germany, remove all positive players from the first round of testing, re test again, remove more positive players then isolate the rest of the players from the rest of society for the rest of the season (along with the officials, physios, etc.) that will probably work. You won't then need to worry about socially distancing during matches and the players would be at less risk than the general public.

However I still believe that any football without supporters in the ground is wrong.

Don't be daft. I'm saying void this season and prepare for next season in August, when there's less risk in terms of managing the rate of infection.

We know it can't stay like this for months on end as Clubs won't survive but June is too early and there's no fix in terms of integrity either.

Bin this season, prepare for next, and the government help out the absolute desperate clubs in the interim.

The money men won't like that but it makes emminent more sense in terms of safety imo.

Every single league below the National League (conference) had their season completely voided, all the way down to grass roots and kids on a Saturday/Sunday (I’m still pissed off at my lad not getting to play the county cup final).
Money is the ONLY reason there remains talk of seeing this season through to a finish in the PL.
If it wasn’t about money - and Liverpool winning the league - then they’d have scrapped the season a month ago along with everyone else.

Why do you keep comparing it to other businesses?

Ffs, people down at the local hardware store arn't running around a football pitch tackling the fuck out of each other.

It's in no way a comparable environment.

Bus drivers? Delivery guys?

I do not see how this can’t be made a safe environment, it’ll be 100x safer than what most people end up going back to.

I guess if those “Billionaire owners losing precious TV” happenslike someone mentioned, there will be redundancy and pay cuts like in any other business that loses revenue?

too many of you are incredibly precious about the dear footballers. They are going to better treated and safer than 99% of this population and at some point people need to start going back to work, virus or no virus. Or nobody will have a work to go to

You’re asking players to go way way beyond what most are being asked to do. Nobody else is being asked to make physical contact the way they are. I would guess massage therapists won’t be allowed back until there is a vaccine. What’s the difference? Close physical contact. It’s like some kind of freak show under the current conditions.

I'm with Rose on this.
Unless the numbers drop massively, it's preposterous to consider playing again.
It's not just the players, it's the many support staff involved, from the kit man to the medical staff.

I also don't like the idea of any chairman saying that they won't pay a player for refusing to play, it's tantamount to blackmail. They are being paid to sit on their arses at the moment, which is another argument (I do think they should have at least taken a pay cut) but to force them to play when the rest of the country is still in the grip of a pandemic is wrong.

It continues to be said and it's starting to grate me now.

Why do people assume isolating physios, coaches and staff and keeping them away from their families is fine?

I work in football and live in another country and it's prevented me from coming back to the UK to see my family and I can honestly say f**k football starting before I get to see them again!

Not too mention staff such as catering, security, cleaning staff, etc.

Should they all isolate and spend time away from family too??

What the f*** is wrong with people?!

Yep. Same here in Portugal.

Only reason the Portuguese league is going ahead is because both Benfica and Sporting are heavily in debt and lack of money could put them in serious bother. Although, things are much better here than in the UK

Catering, security, cleaning staff, etc. would not have direct contact with players so it would be different for them.

As for the rest there's enough money in PL football and if players want to earn it that's what they have to do. The rest who earn normal wages well that's a good point...

No, and people down at the local hardware or supermarkets, you, and them in all likelihood have fuck all clue if they are carrying anything and they don't obey social distancing, and are bumping into you.
It is not like any other business, these people will be under much stricter controls, and it will be much safer for them albeit in full contact sport, than going to your local store, they will be in contact only with people that have passed numerous tests and in totally sterilized conditions.

SO how have players been testing positive then?

Are you more likely to catch something by spending all day around people who have the virus when you think you're completely safe so don't take precautions or bumping into someone for a second in a hardware store?
