Hope this fires Brighton up. Huge deviation on the ball. Not a pen. Very amusing how quickly the ref gave that.
Yep he was so quick and convinced.

Silly to suggest a conspiracy theory but it is odd how these calls are easy to give to teams like Liverpool and Arsenal but others we need 15 reviews and a ref in doubt.

Basically they're predisposed to give pens for the bigger clubs with star players. That's their default mode.

I must be losing my mind. That is very, very, very clearly not a penalty.
Not losing your mind mate.

It was clear from TV viewing first time he clipped the ball. Wasn't even a small knick, completely changed direction.

The ref had a good view of it as well

I can understand how the ref gives that as a penalty, but how on earth does VAR not intervene. It seems, especially since Webb has been involved, that VAR does little more than seek to legitimize the poor decisions of the Ref on the pitch.

That's never a PK in the PL. 95% of neutrals would say that's not a PK. How the PGMOL continues to have their VARs not get involved in calls where 95% say it was wrong is the problem.

It all adds up across a season and more than anything the refereeing is so bad. Both Klopp and Arteta had their outbursts earlier in the season as well which sets the influencing in motion for the remainder.

Also both Woolwich and Liverpool had made cringeworthy ‘announcements’ as if a crime was committed after the Spurs v Liverpool and Newcastle v Woolwich games. Seems all very tin foil hat but this defo influences future ‘marginal’ decisions.

Bissouma did something similar vs Villa (?) but no penalty was given because he got the ball.

People continue to say this hasn't effected how we've been officiated since then. Kicked off the pitch in most games, and 1 penalty all season when we have the 3rd most touches in opposition penalty areas.
There isn't a conspiracy BUT refs and their bosses are obviously feeling Klopp and Arteta's pressure and are scared to give decisions against them unless it's clear.

Any 50/50 or incident that needs subjectivity is given for them because they dare not give those against them and get more tirades thrown at them.

Remember, refs get demoted or removed from reffing teams if they upset them enough

Why do we always get biased commentators doing their former clubs?! Smith - Arsenal. Neville - Man Utd. Carragher - Liverpool.

VAR isn't there to get the right decision, it's to protect the refs. Because if VAR was done properly and overruled every decision the ref got wrong, it would quickly expose the refs are being largely useless and incompetent.

The fact that the people in the VAR room are the same refs and mates of the officials on the pitch says it all.

Get in some independent, proper VAR specialists and fuck the egos of the officials on the pitch if they get it wrong. Overrule them when they get it wrong.

Another example is this "sending them to the screen". When that happens it's because VAR has told them they're wrong and knows they're wrong BUT the system is designed to ensure the on field ref is allowed to look like he makes the final decision. It's a joke.

The big question mark over Brighton is their away form. Whether with better players and a larger budget he could get them to be more resilient away from home, who knows?

well look at last season - they thrashed Arsenal away, and won at Chelsea, Everton, United, and west ham, and some others, and drew at anfield. Imagine you take that team, kept Macallister and Caicedo, and added a few more quality players. They also lost Trossard middle of last season iirc

That’s an absolute joke of a decision! How can you clearly get the ball and then a penalty still be given?
This ref may aswell have an Arsenal shirt on, he has been abject.
Is there any specific wording on what actually constitutes a foul? To play devils advocate you could argue the ball could have still been in Jesus’ control had Lamptey not brought him down. Whereas if he booted the ball away and then got Jesus on the follow through, he’s not impeding a player that could otherwise get on the ball.
