I think a lot of us would’ve taken the current premier league standings and perhaps laughed at the suggestion we would be where we are now.

Not getting too far ahead of myself but very happy with where we’re at and even more so as we were written off by most before a ball was kicked.

Considering most in the footballing press are all on Arsenal being the contenders they’ve had three home games and were not convincing in any of them, their sole away game at Selhurst as well.

I’m enjoying the direction we’re going in and what a transformation when most (I included) were so frustrated by the way Woolwich were playing the expansive stuff as opposed to our dino ball: now when you look at our 4 prem games I feel we could easily match and go a notch above them with the intensity.

I know it’s perhaps my auto bias (hating those lot especially) but when I’ve watched a few of the scum’s games it doesn’t look as good as last season, perhaps Lego head is over complicating things.

I suppose we will know if we can match them and overcome them at their ground. I hope my gut feeling is right: the first time in years I’ve looked forward to us going there and not just getting something but getting 3 points from that insufferable place.

Yeah agreed but let’s see how we get on against arsenal and Liverpool soon.
I have a pretty big fear we could be on the end of a pretty hefty defeat in one of them

I know what you mean, but feel we won’t do a Villa. As long as that same XI stays fit I’m fairly confident. Looking forward to seeing Udogie up against Saka and also Biss vs Rice. Also the partnership Madders and Son have built up. I can picture a Gazzaesque free kick from Maddison.

I will calm down now but still the prospect excites me more than previous seasons at their ground.

I agree but I do worry we give up a lot of space to wingers and both their sets of wingers are devastating with space.
We can hurt both of them too so let’s see. Bissouma will need to lock down ode too.

It's weird how Casemiro has been better from the attacking side of the game than the defensive side. He pops up with goals for United and looks quite creative with the ball. But actually when it comes to defending looks slow and easy to pass around. His reputation as the best CDM in the world at Madrid was well earned but it's like he's doing a different role now.

Havertz feels like Dele: not a midfielder, not a striker, not a wide forward, not a 10. Not sure where he fits in.

That's interesting because I said basically the exact same thing to my mate last week.

I described Havertz as a bit of a "luxury" player, a bit like Dele, in that he'll do very little defensively, very little creatively (As in passing, but plenty of flicks and touches in and around the box) But Havertz best position before moving to Chelsea was almost exactly the same as Dele with us, more or less a free role behind a striker to drift off and make runs in behind.

The reason I say luxury player is because this role is almost non existent today as all players are expected to press high and contribute more than just being clever and making good runs off the ball from mostly long passes.

I actually think that's why Dele's form dropped off a cliff, his play style is just too niche for most teams these days.

Also why I think Havertz will be a waste of money for those scum, they won't utilise his biggest assets because they don't play that way.

Interesting.

Easy to say now obviously but Sancho should never have gone there.
Maybe, but what a strange situation.

Sancho got time off last season for personal reasons, rumored to be mental health issues because he wasn't physically injured.

"Please don't believe everything you read" is something you say to journalist reports, but this is your manager saying these things after a match.

Doesn't look like it's going to end well.

To United? Or say that?

I am going to defend him a bit here.

By saying he hasnt trained well, he is opening the lad up for abuse externally.

You know what social media and football fans are like. Before you know it, he is getting tons of abuse.

And what if Ten Hag is not being genuine?

Ten Hag should not have gone there. Never talk bad about your players to the media, only to them

Can't really complain about Sancho here, his manager has absolutely thrown him under the bus, most likely due to being a terrible loser and needing a scape goat.

If he has trained poorly you keep that behind house and sort it internally, not in a post match interview.

I think (having watched Arsenal today, which I never do unless it’s our game) that our game Vs them could be quite interesting. As long as we are fully fit, I think Solomon could have White on toast. Zinchenko roaming all over the place could give Johnson/Deki/Porro a lot of room. But Saka and Martinelli could equally cause us problems, although the Utd fella kept Saka out the game today I thought.

There was an interesting article about how Ten Hag had mainly brought in players he had worked with before, and appeared very reliant on them. https://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2023/09/02/man-united-invest-erik-ten-hag-transfer/

Antony is his biggest bet and a player he had already worked with. Sancho’s best position is where Antony plays. When Sancho refers to ‘other reasons’ maybe this is it? Would be funny to see a divide open up in their dressing room

How many were saying this last season after our start under Conte? Let's see.

Yes, many were saying it. May I did too once or twice.
But everyone who said it, also knew we werent playing well in those games we won
Can you name a game where we played well the entire 90minute ?

What makes this start different to last is, the convincing performances.

Its not like I am not caveating my belief. As of now, our first XI can give a game for anyone. As long as we keep them fit, and keep playing same level every week, IMO, we will be in top4.

I said this before I don't trust managers who look to previous clubs for players and I'll say this again a club should never just back a manager
