People seem to want Ake and Aarons from Norwich but they’re going down for a reason. Sure there are examples of good defenders who go down but they are few and far between.
Andy Robertson and Harry Maguire went down with Hull.

Aarons especially is young and has huge potential, his next club will turn him into a huge player.

Aarons in genuinely great, resembles Rose of a few seasons ago and is only 20. He is not at fault for Norwich's situation

Yeh, he has done very well though, and might suit a bigger club, though I agree with the general assessment.

Yeah wouldn't disagree with that. He does try to play football the right way and has brought his club a long way and is someone who you wouldn't begrudge getting a shot higher up the food chain. Much like the path Roberto Martinez trod really, in that he tried to play football with a small club and did well overall and one season where it went wrong (and relegation happens), didn't penalise him.

My worry though would be as I said, much like Martinez again, I just think ultimately lacking in a balanced approach. We see more and more now that especially at the top of the game what you do without the ball is just as important, if not more, as what you do with the ball. And his team(s) have just not ever shown enough in this facet for my liking.

This is going to be yet another of those seasons where West Ham survive because again there are three other teams incapable of consistently putting the pressure on them.
West Ham could be shocking for the test of the season, and I still can’t see Norwich, Villa or Bournemouth putting together enough points to get above them.

Sadly agree with this, Villa might be able to pull something out but they are all a bit shit.

Exactly. I said Some examples but they are few and far between. Can you think of any others bar those two?

I was talking about defenders

Fair enough. But there’s plenty of championship level defenders who’ve made the step up to the Prem. The likes of Walker and Dawson May not have been relegated with their clubs, but they were still good enough/ had the potential. Just because a team is relegated doesn’t mean they are all duds.

Yes, sure, Jonny Evans. I mean, ultimately, it isn't often teams go for players who have just been relegated, for obvious reasons. However, the few times that PL clubs go for players lower in the division they tend to do alright.

So I am trying to include every single player who made a step up from a relegated club.
2019/2020 N/A

2018/2019
Swansea
Federico Fernández - Newcastle. Has done well at newcastle, is a starter there.

WBA
Jonny Evans - Been great, simply great at Leicester.
Craig Dawson - Starter at Watford, part of the team that did well last season.
Allan Nyom - A regular for Getafe, who are competing for CL places in Spain.

Stoke
Erik Pieters - Part of the burnley Squad. played a fair bit, not a starter
Kurt Zouma - playing regularly for Chelsea

2017/2018
Hull
Robertson
Maguire
Ranocchia - Went back to Inter, hasn't really played
Tymon - went to stoke and got relegated. Never played much football with either team

Middlesbrough
Fabio - Now a bit part player at Nantes
Gibson - At Burnley, not playing
Barragan - An ageing rotational player for Betis
Chambers - relegated with Fulham as well, now part of the Arsenal set up again...

Sunderland
Javier Manquillo - A rotational option at Newcastle
Lamine Kone - Plays at Strasbourg, gets games

Now obviously very few big clubs have gone for relegated defensive players. But most do ok when they do move. There are plenty examples of this. Baines, Jagielka, Glenn Johnson and even Bassong was useful for us, now I think about it, even Chimbonda!

Just noticed arsenal get 2 days more rest before the NLD... familiar story when it comes to games against our London rivals... how the fuck can they play Tuesday and we play Thursday before facing each other on the Sunday... just blatant bias in the last of the premier league there

IIRC us, Rochdale and Oxford Utd are the only teams he's scored against this season.
