Playing in the PL right after a Europa League vs Champions League match

Does anyone else think that this is somewhat back to front?

I think that that Europa League matches should generally be played on a Tuesday or Wednesday, and the CL matches on a Thursday.

Why?

1: I don't have the numbers, but I know that to get to a Europa League final you have to play a fair few more matches than to get to the Champions League final - can one of you tell us how many more matches you have to play?

2: It seems that there tends to be more requirements to fly to some far flung backwater place in the Europa, with more travel involved vs the CL.

3: With the money that comes from being in the CL, clubs are generally wealthier and therefore should have better players and a deeper squad, so a greater chance to effectively rotate the squad.

I know the CL has all the major club influences, but if we wanted to make this a little more even keeled, there should be/needs to be, more recovery time for the clubs in the Europa League and the days of the week that the matches are played on, should be reversed.

Thoughts??

They don't, the money is in the champions league so everything will be done to make life easier for teams in it

I think it makes the competition more interesting for the viewing audience if it's not the same teams in that competition year in year out - and this would be one way to slightly help that cause.

Makes no real difference

CL = Wed>Sat
EL = Thur>Sun

If its CL and a Tue game then you play 3 games in a week Sat>Tue>Sat.

There is no real difference.

This is already covered in great detail in another current thread. This just seems a copy of what has already been discussed

Cl games will always be over 2 days, more TV money and publicity.

Tuesday and Wednesday far more prime time for TV.

Absolutely love the idea of having them on different weeks, both Tuesday and Wednesday. Could be huge for the EL.

Be good enough to qualify for the champions league then. Problem solved.

No difference at all. A CL team will play PL Saturday then only have 2 days to prepare for a CL match. Whereas we generally play an EL match Thursday and 2 days to prepare for a PL match.

So they get less time to prepare for CL while we get less time to prepare for the Prem

A complete myth. Last year Arsenal only had 2 games 3 days after Europe. We had 10.

Via @beats1
Arsenal:
Played a match 3 days before - 5
Played a match 4 days before - 5
Played a match 3 days after - 2
Played a match 4 days after - 7
Played a match 5 days after - 1
AVG 3.5 days rest before games
AVG 3.9 days rest after games
Played 10 games to reach round of 16 inc qualification

Tottenham:
Played a match 3 days before - None
Played a match 4 days before - 6
Played a match 5 days before - 4
Played a match 3 days after - 10
Played a match 4 days after - NONE
AVG 4.4 days rest before games
AVG 3 days rest after games
Played 10 games to reach round of 32. (progression would have meant EL team plays on the bye weeks for CL teams)

Exactly, for league performances it's worse to be in the EL. 100%

But that will affect their form in the CL, whereas playing in the Europa league affects your form in the Premier League.

Half the time they get an extra days rest. That's massive.

There is when you've spent a lot of your days training/eating/resting on certain days only to have that dicked up by a 2 bit cup.
And how often do champions league teams play Wednesday Saturday? We've had to do Thursday Saturday a few times and this week it's Monday Thursday Sunday. That's ridiculous.
