Am I the only one who is not impressed by him?

He's big but slow, with very low technical ability and has a poor disciplinary record.

Dembele completely owned him when we played them and id rather we tried for Schiederlin if we were targeting an ex-Poch player.

Someone who has positional and technical ability.

I agree with you - Wanyama is guaranteed 3 red cards a season and I have never seen anything exceptional about him. He is a destroyer but i don't see anything else in his play that he stands out at.
We need someone with better technical ability in order to get our attacks going from deep

Guaranteed 3 red cards? Yes, that happened this season, but in 14/15 and 13/14 he received no red cards. Alli could have received at least 2 or 3 red cards this season, but he got lucky. Pretty sure at least one of Wanyama's red cards was quite dodgy as well, although I could be wrong.

Just because something happens one season, it doesn't mean it's guaranteed to happen every season.

I rate him. A good option if we can't get one of the DMs in the bracket above.

Him Dembele and Dier together would be fun to see us bully teams.

I do find it strange some are complaining about Wanyama's disciplinary record, but are perfectly happy with Alli and Dembele punching and eye gouging off the ball and receiving large suspensions.

He can do what Dier does. Nobody else in our squad can. Would be an exceptional rotation option and quality back up. If we can get him for c.£20m I'd be delighted.

The big question is whether he'd be happy having a Trippier role

£20m is way too much given that he has 1 year left on his contract.

Nah, £20m is the new £10m from and English club with the new money in the prem. now, we could sign a better player from abroad for £20m but it would be a bigger risk. I think £20m would be reasonable but appreciate others might not

I know how prices have increased, but £20-25m would be his value if he had more than 1 year left IMO.

If it's £20m for Wanyama I'd far rather we trigger Kante's reported release clause, offers far more. Whether he would come is a different story as I expect as soon as one club triggers the release others will too.

Unless Alli changes his ways he will also be guaranteed 3 or more red cards a season. He will be a marked man now.

As much as I'd prefer a different player who can offer a bit more I really think this move is going to come off. He's held off signing a new contract and he's got the Prem experience we'll probably value.

At least we know he can "do a job" but I'd hope we'd also either bring in another more promising midfielder or make a more concerted effort to play Winks/Onomah.

A back up CM is going to see a hell of a lot more football than a back up RB. Not only could Wanyama replace potentially TWO players he could also be used as a tactical switch, like coming on alongside Dier to completely shut out the opposition.

There are loads of rational arguments for this move, even if there are equally many idealistic wishes to sign great options from foreign leagues. He is statistically speaking almost a clone of Eric Dier. Hopefully they would reverse their yellow card cycle so one would be free to play when the other is unavailable.

This thread reminds me a bit of the Alderweireld one last season. Not the most exciting of links but plenty of good reasons to bring him in. Just swap the vertonghen link for the Poch link.

Positives:-

Poch knows him, he knows Pochs style
Would finally have adequate competition at DM
Potential to pair with Dier for tricky games
CL and PL experience
Still only 24
Seems to want to come
Last year of contract

Makes a lot of sense and for that reason I think it'll happen like @Sweech

I guess we could test the waters with Kante if Xhaka signs for arsenal, but not overly confident we could prise him away.

After that I'd hope we still looked at Dembele completion unless Poch wants to convert Alli or give Bentaleb another chance. Would love the Tielemans link to resurface though, sounds like Kramer didn't have a great season.

£20 mil??? Where'd that come from? Nonsense valuation.
With all the money floating around the PL with the new TV deal, it doesn't sound that outlandish that Southampton may ask for that much, however I doubt anyone would pay it

They can suck out. He's was bang average all season.

Have to disagree with you there mate, the few times I watched Southampton I thought he played well at DM. No glitz and glam, no 35 yard passes to the wingers or intricate through balls, but he snuffed out attacks, made tackles and pressed opponents which is what we would ask of him
