Just saw something on Twitter saying Roma might try and come in for him?

I actually like Roma as a club, but surely that would be a side way step to a lesser league. Still a bit miffed at why no other top league club has come in for him. He'd help improve Barca's defence by a mile.

It's not a side way step right now, roma are in shambles, not playing in Champions League, their legend Totti just left revealing how abysmal the board is. Not to mention they can't afford his wages.

Roma is a massive step down in pure football context, but it might not be a step down financially. This summer, there's a new tax law in Italy for foreigners and Italians returning to the country for work. Basically, they are only taxed on 50% of their income. So, if he gets a contract on 10 milions euros a year, Roma only has to pay tax on 5 milions, around 2.2. milions.

Juve, Inter and Napoli are packed with defenders, Roma's still a massive club and it might provide a natural stepping stone for Toby to go to bigger Italian clubs. He still has time. Bonucci is 2 years older and he's not regarded as an old defender in Italy.

But that's just about it when it comes to advantages of moving to Roma. Personally, I think that it's just club's work. He's been mentioned in a swap deal for Zaniolo in Guardian.

I'm enjoying the complete lack of media coverage of him going to serious clubs at the moment (I know he was linked with Roma but I'm talking rival clubs). Sure things might be bubbling along in the background but with about 3 weeks left to go of the clause things are looking good for him staying with us.

Hopefully this post isn't the kiss of death!

It's strange that both Manchester clubs are fighting over Maguire. Toby despite being older is superior and cheaper. I suppose It's possible that whoever loses out on Maguire will go for Toby.

I'd be delighted if he stayed with us for another season. One less thing to worry about with our recruitment this summer (although it never hurts to plan ahead). Foyth looks promising but he's still a bit raw IMO. We could do with another season of Toby to see how Foyth develops, and then re-evaluate our defensive options next summer.

So we want Maguire to go to City then. I think Maguire wants them, from what I've read. Would Toby go to Man U, I'm not sure. I think he'd jump at the chance to go to Man City though.

I think it depends what Toby wants from here. I personally feel he may just play out the season with us, have a big goodbye and then go on a free to Ajax.

We are linked with Ake again today, if we could get £25M for Toby and Ake for say £45M I would say that would be good business, City linked with him too but would get more game time with us.

Agreed. Man U is a bit volatile currently with Ole at the helm and I'm not sure whether Toby would welcome that move (although a sizeable wage bump would entice him, I guess).
Regarding City: Toby is better than both Stones and Otamendi. I can easily see him slotting into that backline. He'd be perfect for them, sadly.

I'm not sure about Ake. I mean he's good but not great. Seems a bit error prone? Perhaps Poch can coach that out of him, who knows. But personally I'd prefer to keep Toby for one more season and then get someone else next summer.

If he has to leave, I'm really hoping it's abroad. Seeing him in a Liverpool shirt would absolutely feck me off.

United or City would be bad enough, but VVD and Alderweireld would be a right kick in the gonads.

I think people need to remember hes playing in a Bournemouth squad, I like him personally but clearly many don't :cautious:. Considering Maguire will probably go for £75M I think Ake at half the price would be good business. If Toby goes we need another CB in, I like Foyh but he clearly isn't ready for the 1st team as yet.

Toby is a far superior player, is our best defender and also played the most minutes last season.

If Ake came he would be probably our 4th best cb behind Toby, verts and Sanchez.

How is paying 20m to swap your best defender for a fourth choice one a good idea?

Give Foyth a few years and he will probably surpass Ake as well. Ake could be future planning against verts going.

But yeah, losing Toby would be terrible.

Ake might turn out to be good, I don't know. But there are some question marks about him IMO. Agree that we need a replacement if Toby goes.

The thing with Ake is he’s not the most commanding of defenders. He’s all action, loves a tackle and puts himself about, but anytime I’ve watched him he doesn’t seem to be that vocal. Most associate commanding defenders with tough tackles but if you look at Toby, he very rarely needs to. His positional awareness is one of his key strengths.

From that perspective, yes, but it is still not a good deal for us.
