Whatever we think about him I think the club has reservations and it is looking unlikely we'll sign him permanently, we're certainly not hearing anything positive coming out about taking up the option.
Really? Wouldn’t it be better to keep him on his toes and get the most effort from him for the rest of the season?

I thought he was fine again, the assist was great and his output continues to grow. Little bit quiet second half but we were up against a bank of 10 where we always struggle anyway.

People are moaning about Kulu's output and consistency lately, Timo has been one of our most consistent performers since he joined.

I think he'd be a great addition to the squad this summer especially for the price he's available for. He'll be especially beneficial to us if he continues the way he is against the teams who come to play against us.

I like Timo and think he would be good value for the money in the summer, but he definitely was not ‘fine’ yesterday. After the assist he was awful and his failure to do one of the most basic jobs of a winger in Ange’s system probably cost us the game.

3 times he could have had a tap in if he just attacks the far post when crosses come in. First half even savage noticed he stood behind the defender when Johnson put a brilliant ball across, get goal side and it’s a tap in. Later in the half, Johnson puts another one across and same story, he’s on his heels. Then in the second half Sarr puts a great ball in and he needs to do exactly what Johnson did for the goal - get in front of his man and it’s a tap in again. Ironically the only time he attacked a cross he was offside and made a cracking defensive header when Sarr had a really good chance.

The good news is this is surely coachable and when Ange made his ‘joystick’ remarks I’m pretty sure Timo is top of the list for that video review of where his movement let us down

Yeah i would agree as far as things go the runs to the back post should and could be happening more frequently to be fair. But there were worse offenders on the pitch last night compared to Timo in terms of performance, Madders and Son I thought were both non existent and if anyone should be making those runs as often as Timo it's Son, especially as he was in the middle for the majority of the game. But he seemed to want to just hang back and wait for a cut back in to a crowded area.

We saw Timo cause havoc for the OG v Luton making that run so he has it in him to do it and knows when to do it. So it was strange he didn't as often last night.

There was also other times he put some dangerous balls in and nobody made the run in for him either.

Son had a poor game too - I actually thought Madders was decent. But don’t agree about Son making those runs too - that is the far post wingers job in this system. I actually think Timo got lucky against Luton as it was almost identical to the Sarr one yesterday - he should be busting a gut to get in front of the defender in that situation, not hanging round behind him hoping he misses the ball entirely or puts it in his own net. Compare it to Johnson’s movement for the goal yesterday, it’s chalk and cheese

If he did what Johnson did for his assist he would have bagged a goal or two. Seemed to me like he was hesitant to make the run at times.

He's such a strange player. I really can't decide if he's any good or not

I still think 'd be happy to sign him if it was purely as our rotation/back up option to cover the front line.

But that would rely on us also signing a truly brilliant new winger or striker.

In terms of creating for others I think he is good, but his desire to get in front of his defender and his lack of confidence with finishing is what frustrates me.

You think do you? The club having reservations equates to Werner playing 10 games since he joined us and he has effectively been playing ahead of Richarlison? Interesting take.

Sometimes, I think he is scared of his own shadow. :ROFLMAO:

I can't really fault him on yesterdays game, West Ham were fairly compact and tight, no space to really run into. Even with a poor performance (the whole team included) he still popped up with an assist. Definitely a good rotation option.

Did really well for the assist early on but then he struggled and didn't impose himself enough.

He could have bagged a couple of goals and won us the game if he had just gambled and attacked the ball aggressively in the box.

I think he’s one of the most overrated players we have ever had, He’s decent but I think in a few years time we will consider him average. There’s nothing wrong with that but he is what he is. A decent player.

No point getting touchy about it I gave my take on it without passing an opinion on him. I did note what Ange Postecoglu said about the strikers, to the effect of, not not reading the situation and expecting the ball coming across, which I thought poignant.
I may be wrong but that's my reading of the situation.

He just doesn't have the attacking instincts. I like Timo and he has provided some output but if we do sign him i hope it is a squad option and we go big for a top drawer wide man.

This for me.

Worth it as a squad improvement but shouldn’t be a starter longer term.

Out of interest why do you say he so ‘overrated’ I dont think anyone on here is particularly waxing lyrical about him, most seem to agree that he is fast, is a half decent threat and a nice bloke who works hard but that he is also wasteful and not particularly clinical in front of goal.

Don’t think anyone is particularly overrating him tbh and if it wasn’t for the reasonable £15mil buy option then a lot of us would be saying no thanks.

I think he's in the same bucket as Johnson, Kulu and Richy at the moment - sometimes really good, sometimes pretty medicore. I like his attitude and I think he has been a success for us since signing so I'd like us to sign him permanently.

I'd like to see big money spent on a clinical finisher to either compete with or replace Richy.

Seems very timid and one dimensional.

Times when he could've attacked balls and was favourite to get others and just stands there or reacts too late.

People moaning at Udogie for not passing to him early enough, but i can see why he doesn't as unless Udogie busts a gut to get past him (and still may not get the ball) he'll invariably just give it straight back to him.

I found it funny that Robbie savage thought it was a breath of fresh air that we had a left footed winger on the left and a right footed winger on the right, as Werner barely uses his left and really has to have space and time to even attempt it (and yes i am aware he has a couple of assists on his left but I'd say in a match we're lucky if he uses his right foot 3 times)

His link up play is pretty pedestrian too, just passing backwards.

Work rate tracking back leaves a lot to be desired too.

Front three ATM is a real worry as it seems as our football has stalled our over reliance on WF's has reared it's head again...

I'm not touchy at all but I have to say again I'm afraid I don't understand at all how you are coming to your conclusion. You even say in this comment that Ange has said about strikers not reading the situation and not expecting the ball coming across. Yet you link this to a perceived criticism of Werner who is the player usually cutting the ball back to those strikers. It just doesn't make much sense what you are saying.
