He's got the ability to provide goals and assists as we saw last season. He hasn't completely gotten going this season, but then we had ITK that he was carrying an injury which was then confirmed by the Dutch camp sending him home from international duty, so it shouldn't be a surprise that he had a slow start. He seems to be hitting some form now and I think the goal contributions will come.
Not fit lol. Fk that pissed me off. Even said it on MotD. Why did the media do that? Was it just a jab at Spurs to annoy us? Not fit and injured are 2 very different things. Ok he's not fit to play but I've never heard anyone say someone wasnt fit when they were injured. Wankers lol.

Someone translated the info from Holland poorly and just went with it. Rule of thumb, always apply a shit ton of salt when reading quotes and stories that british media have translated from other languages. So much is often lost in translation.

I think he suffers offensively from being the accompanying act to our main event. If you watch the second goal from the weekend you can see he was in just as good of a position to be passed to for the second goal as Kane was, Kane could've squared for him too.

He is getting in good positions, but the other two are on fire right now and they are backing themselves and eachother. Might be a sad comparison, but perhaps it's a little bit like Bale wanting the ball from Benzema and Ronaldo when they were at their peak.

I'm very happy with him though. The man is immense and given a bit of time he will get goals.

RE Lucas and Lamela; I think we could allow both to leave come the summer but we will struggle to find someone to buy them. Ideally we take Bale on for another year, sell those two along with Dele and replace all three with Sabitzer who can play in a range of roles.

Benzemma never had a peak he was a just a twat as evidenced by his don't pass it to Vinicius stunt.

When watching the Arsenal game live I have to admit I thought he was the weak link, not bringing anything to the game and wanted a sub. However, watching the game again I could see how bloody hard he worked to defend and can see why Mourinho likes him.

I often find you can appreciate the covering and work rate of players much more when not shitting yourself over the result. Players like Hojbjerg and Sissoko take the plaudits as their defensive work is more obvious to see as it is them that get the tackle or block. However, it is the tracking back and covering from the likes of Bergwijn that allows them to not be exposed and to be that much more effective.

I guess what I’m trying to say is that it’s a good job Mourinho is the manager and not me, cos I would have brought Bale on at half time.

He's been very good at doing his job in the system we've been playing.

We're playing in a way where even world class players like Son and Kane will only get the ball in decent attacking positions 3-4 times per half. Or sometimes per game, when we close up shop like vs. Arsenal. In this run, our attack will be Kane, Son and "the other guy" and the latters success at his main job won't be measured in goals and assists. At least not by the manager.

He is being asked to perform a role and essentially its sacrificing himself for others. He has done well and hopefully he will get a few goals to make it all worthwhile for himself

Its a bit like Firmino - people criticise him for not scoring enough but what they dont realise is he is performing a duty that allows others to score the goals.

Interesting to watch his transition from an individual talent to a worker in the system, he's almost playing more of a Dirk Kuyt, Park Ji-Sung, Firmino role now where he puts in a shift and accomodates Kane and Son. Very little dribbling, shooting or individual attacking going on.

As long as we win I don't mind at all if he scores or not.

Nah he needs to score or assist or create chances, we're not gonna play this counter attacking game built for Kane and Son, there's gonna be games like this weekend where we need him to contribute.

Steve's in by default as no-one else poses enough of an attacking threat to replace him and his workrate, unselfish runs to make space, and link up play make him the best choice.
He's also the youngest so has a chance of improving over the next season or two whereas our other 3 have reached their ceilings.

The only way he's out of our starting eleven is rotation or if Bale suddenly finds some of his old form.

I got your message cheers but we can't be happy with him if he's not scoring or assisting...well maybe you might be but I'm not.

At this rate he's got 0 goals and 3 assists in all comps.

I want him to contribute some assists and goals as well and I am a bit disappointed by him in an offensive way but then again, if we win the games and win the title I do not give a feck if he has scored and assisted or not.

He was playing an effective role the last three games, thats what he gets praise for right now. It's all about the team.

His technique and Dutch footballing education is probably more assuring to Mourinho in terms of possession and being more decisive on/off the ball in the few moments we get to make it count in big games, than if he played Lucas, who loses the ball a lot more than Bergwijn and his decision making on counter-attacks is inferior.

i think this is a pretty favourable view of bergwijn.

he doesn't allow son and kane to score, they are going to score regardless because they are quality players. plus it's not like those two aren't also working incredibly hard for the team and sacrificing their own game to some extent. son and kane are hardworking but also highly productive, bergwign is currently only one of these - which as it stands is preferable to other options available to us. right now it's fine as we are winning but if something happens to son/kane then where are the goals going to come from? hopefully we won't need to find out but it's undeniable that we are heavily reliant on those two.
