If you start Bale instead of Bergwijn vs Chelsea, City, and Arsenal I can almost guarantee we would concede goals and not have gotten 7 from 9.

I’m not saying he’s been brilliant but the decoy runs and thankless pressing he does are massively important to the success of Aurier, Kane, Son, and the team as a whole.

If he continues doing what he's doing but adds a consistent goal threat to his game our front 3 will be unbelievable.

He's got the ability to provide goals and assists as we saw last season. He hasn't completely gotten going this season, but then we had ITK that he was carrying an injury which was then confirmed by the Dutch camp sending him home from international duty, so it shouldn't be a surprise that he had a slow start. He seems to be hitting some form now and I think the goal contributions will come.

I would really like to hope he improves his attacking play, because he's still offering very little in the final third.

Lamela should still be the starter when fit. Same defensive workrate, but a bigger threat offensively.

The goals and assists will come, he had great numbers for PSV and has 3 assists this season in all comps + we saw what he could do last season

Also when he’s not scoring or assisting he’s still making runs to make space for others, look at Kane goal yesterday

Judging any of our attacking players bar Kane and Son based on the last few matches is silly because they are sacrificing themselves for the team and for those two.

heard it somewhere yesterday that he was nearly playing right back yesterday covering and doing the defensive job.
which i think is a big part of Jose plan and IMHO is something he would do a lot better than Bale at the moment so
it is between him and Lucas for the big games for the moment.
of course adding a few goals would be a bonus but with Son and Harry banging them in each week then not a problem.

And yet go to the Ndombele, Gio and Bergwijn threads and what do we find

and what about the rest of the season?

of the 23 goals we've scored in the league, kane and son have been involved in 20 of them. whilst they are a) fit and b) firing, we can get away with saying the other attacking players are doing a job but what happens if/when either of them get injured or drop off in terms of output? are we confident that bergwijn and others are capable of stepping up and carrying the load?

I'm talking about the latest posts from the past few weeks not the whole season, it's fair if people are picking up on the performances where they're not contributing in games where they aren't being sacrificed but these last few matches where we're well low on possession I don't get the reaction.

I think Lamela abs Bergwijn offer different threats as do Lucas an bale. It’s a good set of different options.

Literally a right back vs Arsenal, goals will come once he starts playing his actual position.

Super disciplined and obviously does precisely what the manager wants him to do.
Needs to settle down still within the team/squad and believe totally.
I'd never seen him play before and was told (by a lot on here) he was like lightning :cautious:
Like to see him have a stand out game.
Important part of the squad who could/can still improve.
Could he be improved upon - certainly.
Up to Spurs

A little bit of extra pace and he would have done a little more in the final third. He's contributing well defensively and working really hard so you can forgive it.

He's settling in well and is improving.
Works hard for the team and appears to be doing exactly what the manager wants. Needs to improve his attacking play a bit more but some of his movement on the break has been great, creating space for others. The rest will come as the ability is obviously there.
Seems like a tactically clever player too, which Jose will like.

He was struggling with injuries leading up to the international break and you can see his fitness levels are really starting to improve now. He’s been a key component of the success of the last three matches due to the defensive qualities he offers, but I’m sure he’ll have more input in the final third in the matches against teams outside of the top 4.

I was worried Jose didn’t rate him but he’s certainly put a lot of faith in him in recent weeks and that’ll only boost his confidence.

yes, although not sure we have the luxury of eating up 3 non HG spots for our RW. We’re going to have to make some tough decisions on Lucas and/or Lamela this summer (maybe even this winter re: European roster) if we have an oppty to add world class quality at CB/CDM and want to push for trophies
