His relationship with Zidane - stretching back years - seems to be very poor. Whilst he remains at the helm it’s hard to see him wanting to return. Let’s hope ZZ stays put for the next 2 years because I thought Sergio was really impressive last night despite the errors for their goal. Great attitude, good pace, real sense on intent about him. Just what we need.

Yeah and I doubt they'll want to go with just one left back.

As I said above, I’m not so sure that, at the age of 24 / 25, Reguilon will want to return to a club where he is second choice - as will likely be the case unless something happens to Mendy, and as will almost certainly be the case if Zidane is still the boss.

Real also have a very promising youngster coming through as well apparently, so he could be back up to Mendy for a while. The fear isn't him going back to Madrid, its them signing him and then selling to the big boys. But thats future Spurs' problem for now lets just enjoy this kid

I suspect we'd be able to convince him to stay for the full two years if things go well. The tough decision will come when it's the last chance with the buyback in summer 2022. If he goes so be it, 45m euro is a decent chunk for a LB, we'd just have to try and find one with a similar profile.

My stance on the matter is that he wouldn't be with us at all without the clause and I'd rather have him for 1-2 years than not at all. Hopefully we can keep him long term (wouldn't be surprised if Levy tried to buy his way out of it) but no point worrying about it now.
Yeah I agree. It's not a bad position to be in: either we have a top LB or lots of money to buy a top LB.

There are just so many variables at this stage. Will Zidane still be at Madrid? Will Marcelo still be there? Will Reguilon want to risk being a backup? Will Levy offer him a phat wage packet to persuade him to stay?

We can speculate endlessly but really we just have to just wait and see.

Next summer will almost certainly be a galactico window for them. Links to Mbappe and Haaland already. You'd imagine dropping 45m on a LB won't be a priority then.

Let’s just enjoy having him while he’s here, what will be will be in 2 years.

Wouldn't be surprised if Levy tries to buy out the clauses next summer considering what they might need to get some deals over the line.

Is his buy back clause linked to his contract? If he were to realise his potential and shine, Levy is normally pretty quick to offer new contracts, so you that remove they buy back clause?

It is in a legal contract with Madrid over his transfer. It means they can buy him back for 45M Euros at any point in a defined period (not sure but sure I read 2 years somewhere?) should the player be open to the move.

Lets hope he has some Hamstrings on him with all that energy and pace he has. Spurs curse, next week out for 3 months with pulled hamstring....

Probably be one of our best signings of recent years, the guy is quality and will only improve. You could tell how much he wanted to play well last night, as with the goal and then there was a ball he played down the line which he scuffed and went out of play, you could see he was proper telling himself off.

I thought the move needed his agreement. Not sure he would agree to being traded like a commodity. Unless we know details of contract we have no idea what the situation is.

From his initiation vid, to his performance last night, the kid oozes confidence but doesn't come across as big-headed.
Seems like a really nice lad and already seems to have settled into the squad.
Looks like Lamela may have decided to take him under his wing too, like he did with Gio.
