The fact he wanted him gone in the summer and he isn't a very good left back let alone a wing back.

Spurs fans do this with every player that disappears from the first team for a while. They all of a sudden become the answer again.

There is a name for this illness on SC, it's called the "Lamela Syndrome"
To be fair I wasn't suggesting Reguilon would be the answer, simply correcting the previous poster than he'd been loaned.
Whilst he was asked by Conte to find a new club let's not forget Conte did the same to our very own Perisic when he was at Inter. He shipped him off to Bayern and when he returned he turned into the player we see today.

Again, not suggesting that will happen just that it's not impossible

Perisic went to Bayern on loan due to his reluctance to initially play as a wing back. Conte wanted him to stay at Inter and welcomed him back when he agreed to play there.

That isn't accurately painting the picture at the time.

Conte wanted rid of Perisic because he didn't think he could play WB. He didn't send him out to practice the role.
It was only when he did prove Conte wrong that Conte decided not to sell him the following season and the narrative started that it was all part of the plan.

This is what Conte said of Perisic before he left for Bayern:

"Perisic did try to do what I asked, but I have negative sensations and I don’t think he can give the team what it needs. We need to evaluate things carefully.I cannot complain about his effort and dedication, but there are roles to be respected. You cannot change the characteristics of a player, even if he tries"

That loan to Bayern was Conte getting rid of Perisic, but Perisic fought back and proved him wrong.

Broke me today and I try to be positive usually. Had so much ball and still looked intimidated and unsure.

That said, Son was rubbish too, so maybe the Pompey right back played up to the occasion. ??‍♂️

In his defence (a little), when we play against a low block Son does tend to get himself into the same space the LWB wants to be in, and they end up playing tippy tappy one-twos before going back to the DCM. That's all I've got.

He can put a really good cross in sometimes so it's very frustrating. I e never really seen what others who rate him do. Technique when under pressure isnt great which is a problem when most of the team ar also poor in that regard.

I would just tell him to keep going at the FB all game regardless of whether you get tackled nearly all the time as you only need to get past once.

I don't think he has the temperament for a team with pressure on them.

Don't think he was great but they played contain for most of the game and he assisted the goal (I know, I know).

First time he’s played for us in a while, I think? So perhaps a bit rusty

Son crossed it for the Emerson chance. Sessegnon nearly got in his way by running into the same space Son was.

Sess is not that guy, Royal gets pelters but is Sess really any better? Slower than molasses, technically limited and hasn’t beaten his man since Obama was in the White House

Feel like I’m taking crazy pills because I thought he was fine today. Misplaces some passes but his side was always where we were gonna score from (and then we did).

Want all our players to succeed but finding it really hard to warm to this guy, the definition of meek in every sense, certainly not a winner

I'm fine with him playing. The second I saw he was on the starting lineup, I decided to place a bet on us having a lot of corner kicks.

Just not fulfilling his potential.
I agree - and yet, he is less then 3 months older than Spence.

He is, like many players, a confidence player - and when he does not play regularly, he loses confidence - which leads to him not playing regularly.

Sorry, do feel I was a bit harsh earlier. He has the tools but just looks like he needs to be sent on a self-belief course or something. So timid despite his experience. There's still time but today was one of those games where he could have run the show...

It's just hard to see why he was considered exceptional all those years ago. Watching him now, he seems ok. All round ok, but nothing really to write home about. I guess he's back useful squad player, but not much else. Needs to find something.

think his just a good championship player, he was very good for Fulham in the championship but didn't really excel in the prem for them, no shame in that
