We're sorted at LWB now.

I still think we need rid of Doherty and a new attacking RWB to come in and push Emerson.

You saw today how much of a difference good full-backs can make.
Personally don’t think Emerson is good enough for the system and two RWB’s will be needed. We would’ve won today if we had a RWB with a bit of quality in the final third..

reggie and Sess will be perfect to cover the left hand side.

Emerson is a very young player who has to adapt to the league still. At RWB he has had good games and less good games. He's fine, give him time. Let's get another one for competition, yes. But to look at a 22-year-old, who's just entered the league and call instantly that he needs replacing is too much. Give players time, particularly considering that, debut aside, Royal really hasn't been awful in any shape or form.

Sess was great today. both attacking and defending.

Hmmmmm maybe I need to take Reggy out of my fantasy football team lol.

Have loved Reggy at left back, but there’s something about Sessegnon playing left wing back, especially as Conte wants them to be quite important offensively.

I don't think anyone on here thinks royal is awful. I personally think he is pretty good player. However his attacking skill set is not good enough for the role. Its not about adapting to a new league for you to cross a ball or try to take a player on.

At the moment he certainly gives us width but not balance when we attack. Our left side is effective we have two left wing backs who are good going forward and have a left centre back who supplements that.

The right side we have a bit of an issue.

My point is we haven't had time to see them, I mean look even at Aurier, flawed player he was he did develop into a good attacking outlet, but not in the first season. Things like, crossing a ball under pressure, getting into the right areas in a new league, all still take adapting. Also, he's not just developing to a new league, he is developing as a player.

Personally, I think he's played better at wing-back than at fullback, and at times has shown himself as a good attacking threat, but not consistently. At Betis, he was the second-highest assist holder in la liga games for the combined two years he spent there. Top the first season and third the second. He was very much known as an attacking RB in La liga, it takes time though for players to express themselves in that way though.

This idea that emerged that he is a defensive fullback seems to have come from his performances here, based almost entirely on the fact he can make a tackle (despite the fact his positioning has been a bit suspect, particularly in a back 4). This sort of thing is normal, he is adjusting to the pace and focusing on not making many mistakes etc, but against Vitesse he was fantastic going forward, and while the PL is a different thing entirely than European competitions it does show you that there is something about him as a forward-thinking player.

He might never adjust, but this idea that he won't be able to be a wing-back, because he is inherently not an offensive player isn't based on reality, at all. As we bought one of the top assisting full backs in La Liga, whose main criticism there was he could be very rash.

A player though, who is adjusting to how we playing is Sessegnon, who is another player who people were very keen to judge him way too quickly, when again, he is a young player, with injury problems adjusting to a role he hadn't played in a long time. May his progress continue, and I am excited about the possibility having real competition down that flank.

He’s looking much more athletic and stronger these days. I think Conte could really get this player reaching his potential, especially as he’s perfect as a WB in a 352/ 343 system

Was ignored in match of the day but didn’t give salah a sniff today.
I thought it was very telling that Mane once again was hauled off yet Salah who had a poor match IMO stayed on. I wonder how long Mane will put up with this treatment ?

He seemed to be playing with more confidence and relishing the challenge of being up against Salah.

Ryan needs a song!
So, to the tune of Rasputin ( by the legendary Boney M?):

Ryan, Ryan Sessegnon
On the left for Tottenham
He plays for Spurs, our number 19’

repeat ad nauseam

It’s only one game so let’s not get carried away but he did show he can potentially be our LWB in this system and be great at it. He has everything you need in that position and showed he can be solid defensively. We also know he’s a natural in the attacking box.

Really promising performance, I’m excited to see him develop under Conte.

I think Emerson has suffered from Romero being out injured. Once he’s back, and they’re used to playing together, we’ll see the best of him in the offensive role.

It's not only one game, he was quality against Norwich too.

Everyone who wrote him off based on nothing is starting to look silly and I love it, I hope he keeps going from strength to strength.

I have always liked Sess and advocated that we buy him when he was in his early days at Fulham. Fair play to him that he showed Fulham some loyalty but I think it cost him in terms of development. I believe he is a quality footballer

Dreaming here but a return to the days of a top form Rose with Davies rotating.
Reggi and Sess could really be the beginning of something here.
Early days so fingers crossed
