Good to see Ange say he liked his work but he didn't get much service (words to that effect), which I think is fair.

Needs to be at full fitness to be truly useful. Son and Kulusevski didn't really create much for him, but he wasted few amazing passes from Maddison.

This team lacks pace , Sonny and kulu constantly passing back instead of taking their defender on . Form of the front 3 continues from where they left off last season , I pray there is a plan to bring someone else in or it’s going to be a long season if they don’t find their form .

I never rated him at Everton. His control is pretty poor, everything bounces off his feet, no pace at all. He barely got 12 goals a season at Everton and last season 1 goal was a poor return for a 60m pound player. I've seen some expensive flops come and go, Rebrov, Postiga, Soldado, Vinnie and I'd love him to prove me wrong but l I just don't see it. I hope Ange gets him going and he becomes a monster!!!

He needs a run of 4-5 games, he worked hard today. Didn't have a clear chance,.however the one where the defender blocked, she should've shifted the ball

Worth pointing out that if Romero hadn’t of headed the goal then likely that Richie would have put it away as he was right behind him and who knows what the narrative would have been on his overall game.

That being said, I would look to upgrade as soon as possible as I have seen nothing in him even before he signed to suggest that he is going to get us 15-20 goals a season.

Only the first game but I saw nothing today that suggests he's capable of leading the line for the season. I thought he'd at least put himself about a bit, but he was largely static and he always wants the ball to feet.

I'm sure he'd have looked better if our wide forwards had done anything useful. But there's no comparison between him and, say, Toney or Isak as a frontman.

Hope we've got plans to bring in another striker, and I hope today was just a bad game for him and he comes good. But right now that £60m doesn't look much like a sound investment.

Problem is you watch him play and he just doesn't feel like a natural striker. Things kind of feel forced and think a lot of it is down to his touch and close control falling short, especially in tight, crowded areas.

The timing of it all makes it even tougher for him as at the end of the day he is replacing a world class striker, who instinctively knew where and how to strike the ball and who felt like knew where the ball was going to hit the back of the net before he'd even got his shot in.

Richarlison will score goals but not expecting big numbers and suspect.the majority will be the ugly type with maybe a couple of quality strikes as he doesn't have the finesse in front of goal.

Maybe I’m naive, maybe I’m dumb, I think everyone here is looking at him in comparison to Harry Kane, arguably one of the greatest strikers ever. While he struggled to get open, the man got no service from Kulu or Son all while being double and triple teamed. He is the type of player that is extremely streaky, to the point where his game gets better as his confidence goes up. I think there is a lot of noise for people asking for us to go out and get a striker and I think that’s a short sighted component.

If he looks like this by December, I’ll happily eat my words, but I feel everyone is being far to harsh. If Ange truly felt we needed another ST, we would’ve gotten one a heck of a lot faster. A prime example is that VDV started with 3 days of practice. I think Richy will excel to a point that will make this thread wonder why they hated on him.

Gonna need so much more from our wide players. I'm not sure how long I'd keep Son out on the left because it doesn't seem to benefit anyone.

A bit unfair really that if Son is playing badly and not offering anything for Richarlison, the chances are Son will be shifted centre and Richi wlll lose his place.

I know it was a long time ago but I remember being really excited by Richarlison at Watford. He seemed to be full of pace, dribbling and really direct running. Kind of turned into entirely a box poacher now.

I'm not gonna really judge him for a good for games in this position and ideally after at least one of Son or Kulu hit some kind of form.

I think he's better out wide, he's only played CF for Brazil and that's a whole different kettle of fish.

Either way Frank's is a good manager and other teams will set up differently against us.

  • Richarlison's goalscoring record for Brazil is only "ok" anyway, less than a goal every other game playing for a side that's hot favourite in the vast majority of games
This feels incredibly harsh: you’re not going to find many forwards with better than a 1 in 2 record at international level. Benzema, Aguero, Lautaro Martinez all have worse records than Richy.

Brentford played with a Back 10 and his teammates were always at least 5 miles away at all times! 😂

I wasn’t mad keen on the way his head dropped when he didn’t score but I think he’s coming in to be the main man after a fairly shitty season.

Patience and perseverance needed I think.

For me the criticism of all three is a bit harsh given how brentford sat in for the whole game. He timed his run well for the chance Maddison slipped through to him and did well as part of our up the field pressing the few times brentford did try to play out.

Hoping against a more expansive United team there will be more space for all three.

The amount of people writing him off after 1 game in a completely new system away from home against a team who played from their own 18 yard box almost all game is ridiculous.

Best chance we had yesterday that we didn't score fell to Son who many are saying should play in Richarlison's place.

Even God himself Harry Kane had many seasons where he took a few games to find his rhythm and score... How many years was it he never scored in August?

Ffs give the guy a chance, he's barely had much of a pre-season, none of which was with the same players he was in with yesterday and the game was a really tough one for any striker....yes even Kane would have struggled to do much yesterday with how Brentford were 3 vs 1 with our central striker almost all game.

He didn't miss any sitters, or play horribly, a couple of decent bits of hold up play, made a good run for the first goal that if Romero didn't head it in, he would have and made himself a nuisance before our equalizer. The one half chance he had he got a shot on target, yes maybe could have made the keeper work harder but it wasn't a chance you think he was odds on to score from.

I'm sure with some time and different opposition the goals will come for him, just need better service. And I think more crosses need to be fed into him when we play a team that sits back like Brentford did. He was making runs into the box but was getting frustrated when the ball wasn't coming in. It's basically a whole new team though so these things take time to gel for them to know the types of runs/movement he will make. Patience is key here.

Wasn't an easy game for a striker against Brentford. Three defenders around him and little service.
I doubt Harry Kane would have scored that game, and if he did it would probably be because he would have been the target for Romero's goal,
and Kane would have dropped deeper and occupied the space Emerson had to score his.

Whilst i am unconvinced by Richarlison being able to contribute more than 15 league goal/assists in a season I do think it's really hard to judge his ability when we've been spoilt by a world class striker in Kane for a decade and to have had Son also display ridiculous levels of clinical finishing and then all of a sudden become a non-entity in matches is alarming. But all of that is not Richarlison's fault - he needs to show that he can be clinical too

I'm willing to give him his chance to come good but when I see other players like Isak and Rodrigo (from Leeds last season) out perform Richy in terms of scoring and workrate with fewer chances it makes me wonder if we signed the wrong forward
