I think partly it’s that someone like Defoe was much easier on the eye than Richarlison. He was more exciting to watch whereas Richarlison can look quite clumsy. But Defoe’s output during his second, longest and most prolific spell here was 79 goals in 186 appearances whereas Richy’s record before joining us was 53 goals in 152 appearances since his move to England. 0.4 goals p match v 0.3 p match, and of course Richarlison was playing in inferior teams.
I’m just making the point that we probably need to be a bit more reasonable sometimes with what we can realistically expect.
