agreed but at the same time it’s one of countless important deals we have failed to close over the years

each time the seller is trying to maximise the value of their asset

we simply struggle to close any deal without an odd contractual situation to be exploited for an immediate first 11 player
Yet we have signed plenty of players in the last 20 years - and swiftly. The couple that haven’t gone our way are not the blueprint.

which first 11 players that were key to the selling club that didn’t have a contractual situation have we signed in the last few years?

Ndombele comes to mind but we know Lyon we’re laughing to the bank on the one

This will still get done at the last minute and we'll be so relived that we'll forget that we didn't strengthen elsewhere....

I would just add that I think over time Levy’s reputation has gotten worse and worse as someone to deal with and now clubs on the continent are happy to mug him off

What question are you asking? How many transfers are done when there “isn’t” a contractual situation, as you put it. Majority of players move at the end of their deals. That’s how the system works.

Ndombele. Hojbjerg. A couple of recent ones.

Yep, we had no issues getting Emerson, Doherty, Sanchez, Ndombele, Lo Celso, Aurier, Lenglet, Forster etc over the line ?

At the end of the day, Sporting are changing the conditions, so the only thing Tottenham can do is go back to the table. Even if they accept these conditions you still go back to the table. I have a feeling as a club, is not so much the fee that's the problem but how we structure anything. Looking at the business model, we would probably base a high fee on add-ons, as well as spread across a period of time. This ensures more money comes into the club to pay for the add-ons. This decreases the risk for us but increases it for the other side.

plus Paul o’keefe said the clause expires 12 days before the end of the window. So spurs had the first 2 weeks to exploit that, pay it and job done.
That bloke wouldn’t know one end of a release clause from the other. He just regurgitates what he picks up from aggregators and passes off as his knowledge as he loves the limelight and has lost what ever contact (presumably Hitchin) he used to have.
