Sorry, but a new contract for Sissoko is completely unacceptable. Effort alone should not be rewarded. The simple fact is he's a terrible footballer.

I thought there was a squad rebuild going on?
Disagree. Right now a big part of our issue is we have players who don’t want to be here and as a result of them not getting their move are not putting in full effort.

Then we have at least one young player reportedly not focused on the game.

We need to rebuild and part of that will be getting the right characters in the squad.

A player like Sissoko who works hard and has a great character is not a bad player to have around.

It’s actually quite hilarious that the GOAT went from being one of the most ‘hated’ player to be one of our most trustworthy players and a new contract

Deserved a raise based off last year but don’t think we’ll be happy with that contract by the end of it.

We'll be happy that yet another player is not holding the club to ransom come the end of his contract.

I guess it says something that a player who everyone seemed to think was trouble has ended up being one of the ones with the best attitude, while the opposite has happened with some other players in that time.

Good for moussa - it sets a good example for players, but maybe hints at what is the problem in other over 30's not getting contracts?

Maybe it's a sign that the new stadium has brought a new policy re more senior players, as we're not so financially dependent on resale.

Well that was strange.
Not so strange for me - ok he's not a world beater but he is a much improved player. Also, I would say that offering a player with a good attitude at a time when squad morale is clearly low is as much about sending out a message as it is tying him down to a longer term deal.

While it is not in line with the narrative of not offering older player contracts I believe this is to be viewed as a message to others as much as rewarding Sissoko. He gives his all every match even if its not going his way. The club no doubt is sending the message now that regardless of age if you show you are committed to "the project" you can be rewarded.

Sissoko has been the biggest surprise for me in the in how his career at Spurs as turned around. I was one of many who could not believe a player who looked so woeful in his first 2 seasons with the first touch of a Sunday league player could keep being played by Poch. However he has proven me wrong and all credit to him.

Meh.
Credit to his effort and improvement, still I always roll my eyes seeing him in the first eleven. He just has nothing of the style of football i would like to see. half of the passes are a cramp and misplaced by a few yards and the finishing is laughable for a pro and top 4 midfielder.
Of course there are more attributes a footballer can have but he is not a exceptional tackler and battler either.

Jan is 10 times the baller that Moussa is.
Our club is either very strange now or we just dont know lots of things.

Jan might also just be refusing to sign a new contract

You think Sissoko would have been waiting on Madrid to call at the end of his previous contract? Maybe we should snap Wanyama up to a nice long term deal just in case then.

Madrid do want Pogba, who Sissoko made look a bit pants in the Euros, so you never know...

They do sign the odd Thomas Gravesen now and again

If this happened at the end of last season then you'd all be saying how great it was that his form and dedication to improvement has been rewarded. A few shit results and it's all "meh".

I agree with the notion about the first eleven but I think he is useful for the squad as a real soldier. We need a player like that. He is a battler. Tottenham Legends chose him a Player of the season for a reason.

I'm very sceptical to this interpretation. I think it might as well serve as a very big "fuck you" to a certain part of the squad, and it is not what is needed right now.

When times were tough, Sissoko didn't go whinging to the press or kick off in the dressing room. He grafted his nuts off to get super fit and when he got his chance he worked his ass off every minute he was on the pitch. A few more players could do with following his example. He'll still command a decent fee in a couple of year's time which I suspect is part of the agenda to a 4 year deal.

Apparently according to Windy his contract is “insane” I think this is in reference to how much he’s getting. Anyone heard an amount ?

You have my hat, sir. He isn’t getting a new contract just because he’s loyal, he’s getting it because he buys into the Poch method and has improved as a consequence

Well, yes, I was thinking it as more of a positive but it does look like a statement contract extension. I guess that something like that could go either way but would you not at least agree that a line does need to be drawn under the current situation and even if we do see a little bit of short term pain, we do want to see long term squad stability and that does have to start with players agreeing long term deals?
