The first post on this thread looks a little bit ridiculous now doesn’t it...

Not really considering the time it was made. This sums him up perfectly:

"Brilliant dribbler and one of the more unique players around.

Problem is he never creates anything with his dribbling. Doesn't make the killer pass or score goals.

His dribbling, while great, usually just ends up with a sideways pass and a stalled transition. Can't see him working in Poch's system and personally hope he is sold before our other cms."

He was world class at what he did, winning the ball in midfield then moving it slowly up the pitch to the edge of the area before laying it off to someone else. The problem being, by the time he dribbled it to the area, all the opposition players had time to fall back and regroup. He slowed play down a lot and there were many times we could have done with a couple of quick incisive passes to catch a team on the break.

Replace Dembele with Modric and then put Eriksen in Modrics spot.

He was the best player in the world at putting himself between man and ball and keeping it. All in the hips (which ironic considering how many hip issues he had).

If we are going back as far as Bale and Modric, then surely Parker or Sandro over Wanyama. But neither of those two are necessary as you'd just play Modric next to Mousa.

Wasn't a supporter when VDV was here but give me Eriksens longevity and consistency. He's become really underrated due to his end here.
I agree, Eriksen is up there as one of our best ever players imo. But VDV was genuine, bona fide world class from minute one.
