Said in the match thread that some of the younger lads looked nervous out there in the first half, but Micky was the exception. He's an absolute gem.

So composed, and has slotted right in effortlessly.

Unbelievable that this kid is only 22, and basically has only played one season in a top league before.

Easy to forget that for several of our players (Vicario, Udogie, VDV) that was very possibly the biggest fixture they’ve ever played in their life. You’d never know it from their performance.

I had my doubts before we signed him but he has been consistently one of our better players in every game so far and today he was my MotM.

To think many of us (me def included) were disappointed when we went for him over Tapsoba. Laughable really.

He is absolutely fantastic and makes everything look effortless.

It's true. Van De Ven has a much higher ceiling than Tapsoba but I think there were doubts about how ready he was right now. Well certainly no doubts anymore, he looks the real deal. So composed but also a real physical specimen. Absolute baller.

Had all the attributes to develop into one hell of a player. I think he’s already there. Unreal signing and has genuine potential to grow into being one of the best CBs in Europe.

He's not as good as Verts yet but already has speed for days. If he developes as expected in the next couple of years then we'll have two of the absolute best CBs in the world marshalling our defence again. As good as anything the Citehs of this world could hope for.

I felt Tabsoba was the planned here and now LCB, with VdV the heir apparent. But the finances and maybe Leverkusen’s reluctance made that plan unfeasible. I felt VdV was a decent prospect, but did wonder if it was a season too early for him to be our frontline. How wrong was I. Looks to have taken the move in his stride.

Maybe agree with this, but probably only temporarily. Perhaps he’s not quite there yet. Verts was silky smooth, VdV is classy but I do believe he will grow as a footballer the more he plays, and may suppress Jan based on his higher physical attributes.
