I've been so impressed with this guy and deserves more praise. an actual defender who can defend and not give you kittens.

Bumping this, because he was outstanding first half. From where I was I was right behind the left side of both defences. Scary that he is only 22?!

He has stepped his game up massively since joining us. He was always good but still a bit raw but for us he has been amazing! Scary to think how good he will become in the future.

Looks an absolute steal for what we got him for and he's a dish as well so another reason for the wife to want to watch a game so win win

Vertonghen 2.0. He'll be some player when he reaches his prime, which is still so many years from now.

Data showed Van De Ven was bad aerially...

Bloody good scouting on top of data shows he is as good as any player aerially.

Today, he was imperious in whatever he did. Bossed Mcburnie aerially, which isnt a easy thing to do.

Another box ticked in the list of doubts on his ability

Didn’t win a header all match, but was clever enough to take a step back and deal with the knock ons instead.

Their number 9 was decent in the air winning everything and that's okay as long as we kept picking up the second ball, which we did.

Was surprised with how good he is with the ball at his feet, but also he didn’t win a single header today which is surprising for such a tall lad.

Had the sense to contest the headers and work with his ful back to collect the second ball.

Really impressed with this lad overall and still young for a CB.

I think it was a conscious choice to pressure McBernie and win the second ball. Rather than fiercely contest the headers and potentially offer a route for someone to run through

Hmmm not sure. I think he tried to contest and didn’t win a single one in the first half so they changed what the approach.

I’m happier with this pragmatic approach and think VDV has exceeded expectations so far.

Best CB in the prem in a year or 2.

He really is an outstanding young defender who'll only get better!

McBurnie is also one of the best in the league at winning aerials. He can't do much else, but he wins aerials.

(He has 18 on the season, in 196 minutes. Pinnock leads the league with 22 in 450 minutes)

Hmm.

Not sure on that.

Through my eyes Mcburnie won the majority of headers.

He was still very good today.
