I want this kid in, but only second to a starting lb, he's got talent but he can't be THE lcb, different players with different attributes but I don't see him stating over even Dier, he's young, he's not a starter. So I'm chilled about this deal, it's the first choice lcb that is a must, the only must, this kid is a nice to have

Starting to seem more and more like we have spent our budget and are waiting for the Kane/Hojbjerg money to come in before moving forward, which is an absolute disgrace but it wouldn’t shock me
I just don't think it works like this given the amount of credit the club has access to

The fact we haven't brought any CB in yet is so dumb. New manager has us playing a whole new way, wants the squad to get used to his system, yeah let's wait until the season starts before getting a CB or two in, drop them into the 11 not knowing how the hell to play the system. The incompetence is off the charts.

Do you ever wonder that if something is as blindingly obvious like signing a new CB and we have chosen NOT to do it, then there could be another reason?

I like to give people the benefit of the doubt - save for anyone with their email address as their username (John, I’m joking) - so would you just not think there are other things that are at play that make complete sense in that context?

Maybe I’m just super naive, but in retrospect things like this tend to make sense in the round.

Maybe not. I don’t know.
Fantastic points mate and I feel exactly the same, fingers crossed it works out in the end.

Things seem to make sense this time around so far and I feel like the Kane situation or some other factors are the obvious hold-ups for our progress on a new CB.

Could just be that we need to sell Sanchez as the squad is so bloated and as soon as that is finalised we pull the trigger on VDV etc.

We won't know all the details but as you say things tend to make a bit more sense this time around so I'm still remaining optimistic especially given our good exciting early transfer business and the fact that Ange says we are working on bringing in at least 1 new CB.

I guess I don’t understand why is it just VDV or Tapsoba? They’re not even particularly similar players… if neither deal can be done, then buy someone else. There’s got to be 100 CBs in Europe who fit our needs better than the ones we have now.

I’m afraid for the back half of last season and even in our first pre season match this year our defence have shown that they are likely to concede plenty of goals even when the opposition has relatively few chances.

If we don’t get some proper defenders in then the manager is being set up to fail, there can’t be any other argument. He doesn’t stand a chance.

I do understand why everyone is getting a but tetchy. We’ve had very little transfer news since the team went on tour, at least as far as incomings go.

I suspect much of our business is on hold until we can move people on, and or we broker a deal with Bayern to sell our one world class player.

Well said and agree. When, as I expect, Kane is sold this window, I will cease to be a fan of Spurs. I will end my comparatively short fandom tenure (~12 years) because I can't continue to root for a team with demonstratively poor leadership. Everyone has to make their own choice in the matter; I choose to walk away.
Good riddance

The more I follow our transfer business and negotiations, the more it seems that Levy and the club‘s number one priority is to to get a good deal.

If that is the case then it explains why arguments based on team need, fit for the manager’s system, neglect for the position in previous windows and potential to be great all fall on deaf ears.

The club won’t pay 30-40 million Euros for a player that fits the above criteria… but If Van de Ven’s starting evaluation had been 50 million, but we could have got him for 40 million then he would have already have been bought.

Urge to win every deal when getting a quality player should be enough.

Depends what you think success is. Plus the board need to play their part in bringing this success, it isn't just down to the manager.
If our success is contingent on the board, we're fucked. The only success we've had throughout the Enic years is through a proper manager. It all stems from that one person. We've had three in their tenure, Jol, Redknapp, and Poch. They succeeded despite enic, not in tandem with them

Well, for me, I don't think we should accept that and let it be. We need to make our opinions known and I don't think any manager should cop the blame for the board's mistakes.

For me, I think the frustrating thing is why do we have to continue with the practices before we had the stadium? We should have the money now to accept losses on players and move them on even if there is little interest.
